Use

To make the structure of a multiple-line basic list clearer, you want to generate a list showing the following information for each flight connection; the actual flights, the date, the price, and information about occupied and free seats.

Prerequisites

You have created query G1 as described in the section on defining single-line basic lists, and created the G2 copy as described in the section on determining the sort sequence.

Procedure

  1. Create a copy of the G2 query, and call it G5.
  2. Highlight the G5 query and click on the Change function.
  3. Create a new note.
  4. On the Field-Group Selection screen in the Field Selection series of screens, select the additional Flight Table field group. In the next Field Selection screen, select the fields that contain the required information about the flights. You can see these fields in the screen shown below.
  5. Click on the Basic List option to determine the lines that are displayed.
  6. The Basic List Row Structure screen is displayed.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

  7. Type the appropriate information into the fields as shown in the above diagram.
  8. Note

In this basic list, two different lines are defined. This means that the list is a two-line basic list.

  9. Since the basic list has two lines, you deactivate the Columns separated by |, checkbox.
  10. On the Control Levels screen, select the Frame column for the Departure Time control level to frame each individual flight connection
  11. Use the Test This graphic is explained in the accompanying text function to test the query.
  12. When you have made your selections on the selection screen, the following list is displayed:

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

This list is still not adequate. You want a flight connection to be displayed only if there are flights during the selected period.

  13. Click on the Back This graphic is explained in the accompanying text button to return to the Basic Lists series of screens.
  14. Use the This graphic is explained in the accompanying text and This graphic is explained in the accompanying text functions to navigate to the List Line Display Options screen.
  15. In the Ref. column, specify which of the other lines you want the current line to displayed with.
  16. Note

Since the flight connections (line 1) are only meant to be displayed in connection with the flights (line 2), you must type 2 for line 1 in the Ref. column.

This graphic is explained in the accompanying text

Specifying a reference line in the Ref. column means that your list contains only those flight connections for which flights actually exist in the selected period.

  17. To display the price of a flight in the relevant currency, you must set the appropriate radio button for the field Price in the column Unit on the Field Output Options screen.
  18. Activate the Page Header checkbox for the first line.
  19. The Page Header option is useful only if you are defining your query with a fixed page size or you want to print your query lists. This option allows you to repeat certain lines in every page header.

    Example

In the list for each flight connection (line 1) there are several flights (line 2). This means that if you are working with a fixed page size (which is always the case if you are going to print the list) one page may contain only lines with flights. However, if you select the Page Header column for line 1 (flight connection information), the line containing the flight connection is displayed on each new page. On each page you are therefore able to see to which flight connection the flights on each page belong.

  20. Use the Test This graphic is explained in the accompanying text function to test the query again.
