This section explains how you create and change queries.

When you create a query, you determine which fields are read from the database. You also define basic lists, statistics, and ranked lists.

There are two ways of defining basic lists:

In the Query Painter you define basic lists in WYSIWYG mode (what-you-see-is-what-you-get).

For more information, see Creating Basic Lists with the Query Painter.

The layout designer is the classic variant for creating basic lists. It enables you to define a basic list over a series of screens.

For more information, see Structure linkCreating Basic Lists with the Layout Designer.

Note

The graphical Query Painter uses various controls. It can only be used when certain hardware and software requirements have been fulfilled. In the Queries component, each user uses the Settings ® Settings function to determine the method he or she wants to use to create queries. If the appropriate software requirements are fulfilled, the graphical Query Painter is always the standard setting.
