Report templates
define the layout of documents. On the report template, symbols of various symbol types form the link with data stored in specification management and with data from other SAP components. The symbols contained in a report template have not yet been expanded, that is, they have not been replaced by specification data, phrases, or other field values.
The report creation process depends on whether a report template contains specification symbols or not (see Report Creation: Process). A label represents an example for reports with or without a reference to a specification.
Use
SAP System « Microsoft Word Link
When you create a report template, the SAP System calls a modified version of Microsoft Word:
WWI (Windows Wordprocessor Integration). During processing, the file is kept locally on your PC.When you exit Word, the Word RTF file is downloaded to the SAP database, saved there, and then deleted from the local data carrier.
As the generated document is saved as an RTF document, the generation is carried out independently of the language of the Word version.
Link to the Generation Variant
Reports with Reference to a Specification
Report templates are linked with a usage by the
generation variant. Usages define the validity areas and ratings for which a symbol of the type Symbol contained in the report template may be expanded. You therefore need to have created the usage for:You can only start report generation after you have released the report template and linked it with a specification, a generation variant, a language, and a key date.
Reports Without Reference to a Specification
If no specification symbols are included in the layout of a document template, the report template is immediately handled as a released
report after the generation variant was assigned to the document template. This report is therefore available for report shipping in the report information system.
