Using Background Work Items 

Use

The workflow system generates a background work item if an activity that references a background task is executed. The execution of the background work item is carried out by the workflow system.

Background work items are not displayed in the Business Workplace. You can locate these work items using the work item selection.

A background work item can also be identified with the type code B in the technical information on the workflow.
