Use

After you have created the costing run, you can select the materials to be costed. How you select the materials depends on whether you are using closed BOMs (which are not configurable) or open BOMs (configurable).

For materials that are often produced in the same way, BOMs and routings for each material are defined in Production Planning (PP).

For multivariant products, BOMs and routings are defined in Production Planning (PP) for what is called a standard product. You create a material master record that refers to the standard product for every variant of the standard product. You create a BOM and routing for the standard product. You also define dependencies between the different components in the BOM and the activities in the routing. On the basis of these dependencies, the system can determine precisely which BOM components and routing activities are required to produce the variant.

Prerequisites

You have created the costing run.

Procedure

  1. Open the screen area Processing. For the flow step Selection, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (quick info text Change Parameters).

The screen Costing Run: Selection - Change Parameters appears.

  1. Enter selection criteria for the material number, low-level code, material type, and/or plant. You can also use an existing costing run as a reference, or select on the basis of a selection list.
  2. If you want all materials in the BOM to be recosted, select the Always Recost Material indicator.

In the costing run, you can use the transfer control ID to specify whether existing cost estimates are transferred for certain materials. This allows you to prevent materials that have already been costed from being selected for costing again. To be able to recost all materials in the BOM, select the Always Recost Material indicator for the selection. This restricts the transfer control function.

  1. If you want to select and cost configured materials (stock types) only, select the indicator Select Configured Materials Only.

Note

If you are using open BOMs, you must carry out the flow step Selection to select the configured materials in a plant. Standard products have the material type KMAT and cannot be costed.

The BOM for a configured material does not usually consist of configured materials only. To increase performance, you can do the following:

    1. Cost all nonconfigurable materials.
    2. Define a transfer strategy from which you can access these costing results (see also: Use of Existing Costing Data).
    3. Select and cost the configured materials.
  1. Decide whether this step should be run in the background.

If you want to cost online, deselect the Background Processing indicator. For more information, see Background Processing.

  1. If you want the log for this step to be printed, select Print Log.
  2. Save the selection parameters with This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.
  3. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

This returns you to the Edit Costing Run screen.

  1. To select the materials, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (quick info text Execute) for the flow step Selection.

After selecting the materials, you can call up a list of the materials and their data (such as the plant and costing lot size) by choosing Material Overview This graphic is explained in the accompanying text in the Costing Results area.

Note

If you have selected Background Processing, the materials are not selected. Instead, the system displays the dialog box Background Processing: Job Parameters. Enter the start date and other start criteria for the background job here.

Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying textCopy to schedule or start the job. Choose Goto ® Job Overview to go to an overview of all background jobs.

To access the Structure linkSchedule Manager, choose Goto ® Schedule Manager.

  1. Choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text to update the displayed costing run data.
  2. Save the costing run with This graphic is explained in the accompanying text.

Result

When the selection has been run, you see the status, the number of materials selected, and the number of materials selected with errors for this flow step.

To check all the messages that occurred during the selection, choose This graphic is explained in the accompanying text (quick info text Display Log). The message log provides an overview of the results of the material selection and the option to prevent potential errors before carrying out further steps.
