Use

The Alert Monitor usually monitors the SAP R/3 System in which you start it.

You can, however, monitor multiple SAP R/3 Systems with a single alert monitor. To do this, make an SAP R/3 System your central monitoring system. You then only need to add your other SAP R/3 systems to the alert monitor in your central monitoring system.

You can monitor as many SAP R/3 Systems as you want from one single system. Technical factors such as the speed of, and traffic in, your network restrict the number of systems that can be monitored. On the basis of experience, however, practical restrictions of this nature are only relevant when monitoring over a hundred SAP R/3 Systems.

Prerequisites

You can only monitor a remote system if you have defined RFC destinations for every SAP R/3 System that you want to monitor remotely. A remote SAP R/3 System is every SAP R/3 System to which you are not logged on.

Procedure

Monitoring an Additional SAP R/3 System

  1. Choose CCMS ® Configuration ® Alert Monitor, or call transaction RZ21.
  2. Choose Technical Infrastructure ® Create Remote Monitoring Entry
  3. Make the following specifications in the definition screen:
  4. Target System ID is the identifier of the SAP R/3 System that is to be monitored, such as C11, R3P.

RFC Destination of a Target System for Data Coll. and for execution of analysis method are the names of the RFC connections to the remote SAP R/3 System. To display a list of the defined connections, choose Goto ® RFC Connections. See Monitoring Multiple SAP R/3 Systems: Defining RFC Connections

  5. Choose Save. When saving, the SAP R/3 System automatically tests the connection to the remote SAP R/3 System. If the RFC connection does not work, the system displays an error message. Test the connection, and if there is an error, correct it using transaction SM59 (Structure linkDisplay and Maintain RFC Destinations).
  6. Call the Alert Monitor by choosing CCMS ® Control/Monitoring ® Alert Monitor or with transaction RZ20.
  7. If you are using rule-based monitors for the monitoring, the new system is automatically displayed in your monitors. Otherwise, add the new SAP R/3 System to your monitors or create a new monitor (see Creating and Changing Monitors).
