You set this function in Funds Management when you are working with encumbrance tracking (fiscal year-based or period-based) in order to control any adjustments that need to be made to the selected encumbrance tracking.

You can also stipulate that internal commitments postings in Funds Management (such as earmarked funds) and commitments from other components (such as purchase orders from Materials Management) can be posted in Funds Management. You do this as follows:

• Opening the relevant posting periods in the appropriate fiscal year

• Determining the relevant value types and FM account assignments in the open posting periods

You can use individual processing or mass processing when opening and closing posting periods. In both transactions, you determine the open posting periods the following parameters for each FM area:

• Budget category (payment budget or commitment budget)
• Fiscal year
• Value type
• FM account assignments (funds center, commitment item, fund)
• Authorization group

• Posting periods (from – to)

Individual processing makes it possible to create a very diverse selection of posting periods and value types in a table.

If you want to close an open period prematurely when using individual processing, you delete the corresponding table entry.

Mass processing is suitable for defining simple rules. You use it to open or close posting periods for account assignment area.

If, when using mass processing, you want to close an open period prematurely, then enter the relevant account assignment area and set the indicator Delete definition from the entered criteria.

You execute the individual processing and mass processing of posting periods by choosing Accounting ® Financial Accounting ® Funds Management ® Additional Functions ® Closing Operations ® Open and Close Posting Periods / Fiscal Years ® Individual Processing or Mass Processing.
