Startup and Shutdown of the Oracle Database with SAPDBA
Purpose
You can use SAPDBA to start up and shut down the Oracle database.
Process Flow
You start the database using one of the following methods:
The SAPDBA GUI. See
Starting up the Oracle Database System

The SAPDBA command-line entry
sapdba –startup
or
sapdba –startup_dba
. See
sapdba -startup(_dba)
.
The operating system command
startsap
.
If required, you
switch the database to restricted session mode
. This is required for certain operations such as
reorganization
.
You
check the database status
.
You shut down the database using one of the following methods:

sapdba –shutdown
or
sapdba –shutdown_abort

stopsap
