The Workplace technology allows you to group applications based on the requirements of a specific type of user. Since these applications run in a Web browser, they are designed for a different user community than applications running in the SAP System, and are easier to use.

Note

You can find more information on the Workplace in mySAP.com Workplace or in SAPnet using the alias workplace.

For Web applications that display lists in the Workplace, two versions of the ALV Grid Control are available. Depending on the complexity or length of a list, you either use the MiniALVor the MidiALV.

Integration

To display a report in the Web, you need a report or a query (which generates a report) in the SAP System. For Web Reporting, the report results are used and transferred to the Web browser.

As far as standard applications are concerned, both the MiniALV and the MidiALV build on functions of the ALV Grid Control on the backend. MiniApps which build on earlier SAP Releases where the ALV Grid Control did not exist use the AddOn MiniALV (included in the Workplace delivery). This documentation describes the Standard MiniALV. The MidiALV is not included in the Workplace delivery and can therefore not be used for earlier Releases.

Note

The sections Architecture and AddOn MiniALV Versus Standard MiniALV describe the MiniALV components.

Before a report can be displayed in the Workplace using the MidiALV or MiniALV, the report must fulfill certain prerequisites.
