SAP Easy Access is the new role-based initial screen in the R/3 System allowing you to navigate within the system using a clearly-arranged tree structure. System administrators can personalize the menus to tailor R/3 to the way a user works. They can create individual work center menus or select them from a catalog of standard activity groups delivered with the system. In addition, users can create their own favorites lists and include the applications they use the most.
Two menu trees are offered in SAP Easy Access, the SAP menu and the user menu. The SAP menu provides an overview of all functions delivered with the R/3 System. This should only be used as the default menu, if no user menus including user-specific functions have been defined and assigned to users. You can switch between the user menu and the SAP menu at any time.
When users log on to the R/3 System, the role-based menu should appear. Activity groups must be assigned to these menus. The activity groups delivered by SAP can also be directly assigned to users, however any changes made would be overwritten during the next release upgrade. These activity groups are designed to be used as templates containing transactions and the corresponding authorization data. You can edit these activity groups in activity group maintenance (Transaction PFCG).
An activity group can contain transactions, reports, and Web addresses. You can generate authorization profiles for the activity groups delivered by SAP, if needed.
As of Release 4.6A, the initial tree (the root for the SAP menu) is no longer set in the system profile parameter start_menu but in the Customizing Transaction SSM2.
