BOM Transfer to Project System

Purpose

You transfer a bill of material to Project System to assign its components to network activities and update the assignments. You can find further information in the PS - Project System documentation in Bill of Material Transfer.

If you want to replenish an assembly, which has a long replenishment lead time, before the design of the whole product is complete, you can first transfer this assembly to Project System and generate preliminary requirements. In this situation, please read the notes in Advance procurement in the PS - Project System component.

In the order browser, you can trigger BOM transfer on one of the following levels:

For the whole multi-level BOM for a sales order item

For a subtree

For a single assembly

Prerequisites

If you work with variant configuration you have selected the result-oriented order BOM in the configuration profile for the configurable materials.

You have maintained the reference points in the BOM items and in the network. You can find further information in Maintaining Reference Points in BOM Items and Maintaining Reference Points in Activities.

Process Flow

You check in order analysis, whether one or more assemblies are used several times in the multi-level BOM for a sales order item.

If this is the case, replace the material in the corresponding node in the order browser, before you continue with the next steps. For more information, see BOM Transfer and Assemblies Used More than Once.

Before you trigger the transfer, refresh the BOM explosion in the order browser if necessary, to ensure that the current status is transferred.

You select a node and trigger the BOM transfer.

The system transfers the whole tree or sub-tree below the selected node to Project System. If configurable assemblies are contained in the tree or sub-tree, the system determines the configuration and transfers the components, which were selected during characteristic value assignment for this node.

The BOM Transfer screen appears. The data in the selected node is transferred to this screen.

You execute BOM transfer.

Result

If you start BOM transfer from the order browser, the system determines the quantities of each component as the product of:

The component quantity of the BOM item
The component quantities of all superior assemblies up to the material in the sales order item
The quantity in the sales order item
