Reporting Point Backflush for Stock Materials

Use

It makes sense to use this function if:

You work with longer lead times, but want to withdraw the components closer to the time they are required for the operation.
You want to calculate work in process.
You want to backflush scrap quantities at the corresponding operation.

If you use reporting point backflushing, the system backflushes all material components that have been consumed and posts the activities carried out at the reporting point operation. It reduces the dependent requirements in the planned orders and updates the statistics in the LIS.

You can use either the mandatory or the optional reporting point backflush.

It makes sense to use the optional reporting point backflush if you usually only backflush at the end of the production process, but you also want to be able to backflush scrap directly at the operation. You can also use the optional reporting point backflush to calculate WIP at the end of a period.

In a mandatory reporting point backflush, you backflush the quantity currently on the production line at every reporting point. A document is created at each reporting point. The mandatory reporting point backflush guarantees maximum control of the production process. It requires, however, more effort.

When calculating WIP, the system temporarily uses the mandatory reporting point backflush process as the creation of WIP values in the optional reporting point backflush is carried out in exactly the same way as the mandatory reporting point backflush.

Prerequisites

You must assign a suitable repetitive manufacturing profile in the material master record to be able to backflush a material using either the mandatory or the optional reporting point backflush function.

You must set the optional or the mandatory reporting point backflush in the repetitive manufacturing profile.

This type of backflushing corresponds to the milestone confirmation in make-to-order production. Therefore, in the routing, you must select a control key which has indicator 1 (= milestone confirmation) in the confirmation field.

You must enter the routing in the production version of the material. The system first looks for the routing entered in the detailed planning section. If no entry exists here, the system then uses the routing from the rate-based planning section.
You must carry out a version-specific or a standard cost estimate. You are recommended to use the version-specific cost estimate which can be carried out in shorter intervals than the standard cost estimate.

Features

When backflushing at reporting points, the system backflushes all materials that are withdrawn and consumed at the reporting point operation. If you backflush a production quantity, the system reduces the dependent requirements of the oldest run schedule quantities. You can also backflush previous reporting points subsequently (see also Backflushing Reporting Points Subsequently.

The system calculates the material and production costs and backflushes them to the product cost collector.

In the repetitive manufacturing profile, you can set the system to post the goods receipt automatically at the last reporting point. This function is particularly useful for the mandatory reporting point backflush. The system does not reduce capacity quantities until the final backflush (last reporting point backflush).

You can also backflush actual times. The production activities are then posted according to the actual time taken for production. See also Posting with Activity Correction.

You can also backflush scrap at the reporting point for the assembly as well as for the components.

If you backflush assembly scrap, the system backflushes production activities and the goods issue for the components.

If you backflush component scrap, the system only backflushes the goods issues for the components.
