Some keyboards have 24 special keys on them, however, many have only 12 or 8 special keys (
F1- F24, F1-F12 , or F1-F8 . These keys are called function keys or F keys .To choose a function on a keyboard with only 12 or 8 function keys, you press one or more modifier keys, such as
CTRL or SHIFT , and then the function key.With the new extended function key concept, you can assign functions to up to 99 function keys. The new function keys are activated by using the function keys used so far plus platform-specific key combinations (shortcut keys or menemonics), for example, CTRL+<character>.
Purpose
Function keys on the keyboard allow the user to access frequently used functions quickly. Function keys are an alternative to pushbuttons and menu options which are displayed on the screen and controled with the mouse (sometimes pushbuttons can also be operated with the keyboard).
Old: While the number of pushbuttons in the

The available function keys are listed in the
Function key menu. To display the function key menu, click the right mouse button. You can choose a function from the menu.
