Editing a PATTERN Worklist

Use

A PATTERN worklist enables you to define standard translations for source texts that often appear in the system and consist of the same source text string plus variable non-language specific characters. If you define standard translations for these pattern texts, and then flag these proposals in your PATTERN worklist, you can guarantee the following:

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Call up transaction STMA.
  2. Choose Worklists ® WL administration.
  1. Select the most recent worklist with Purpose PATTERN and choose Edit WL (STMP).

The system displays the entries contained in your PATTERN worklist. For each entry, the non-language-specific characters that vary each time are represented by &01&. If there are two or more variable strings in the source text, then each further variable string is represented by &02&, &03&, etc. (For example, &01& Programm &02&).

You can now begin to process the entries in this worklist.

  1. Now double-click the first entry in your PATTERN worklist.

The Proposal Pool: Editing dialog box appears. Here you can see the source text (in this example, Programm &01&). As yet, no target text exists for this pattern text.

  1. To display the specific source texts that occur in the system and that include this pattern term, choose the yellow icon on the right-hand side of the source text.

The system now displays a list of the source texts where this pattern term occurs in the system.

This list should give you a good idea about whether you want to implement pattern translation for this specific pattern term:

  1. To return to the Proposal Pool: Editing dialog box, choose Continue, then Cancel.
  1. To define your translation for the pattern term, select the target text line (which is still empty) and choose Change line.

The Change Target Text dialog box appears.

  1. Now enter your translation of the pattern term in the New node text field. You need to copy the variable string &01&. In this example, you would enter Program &01&).
  2. Choose Continue and save your entries.
  3. You can now simulate the translation of all the instances where the pattern term occurs in the system, so that you can see how the source texts would be translated if you decide to flag your translation for automatic distribution. To do this choose the yellow icon on the right-hand side of the source text again.

The system now displays a list of both the source texts and the respective simulated target text translations. The icons on the left-hand side explain whether a proposal already exists or not for each source text.

This means that a proposal already exists for this specific source text. The existing proposal matches the simulated translation and is already flagged for automatic distribution.

This means that a proposal already exists for this specific source text. The existing proposal matches the simulated translation but is not flagged for automatic distribution.

This means that a proposal already exists for this specific source text, but the existing proposal does not match the simulated translation.

This means that no proposal exists as yet for this specific source text.

To see where a specific source text occurs in the system, select the source text from this list and choose Where-used list. This will show you all the instance in the system where this source text is used. For more information, see

  1. To choose which source texts you wish to translate using pattern translation choose Option.

The Update Options for this Pattern Text dialog box appears.

  1. Choose Save, then Continue.
  2. Now select the target text line and choose Set automatic distribution.
  3. Choose Save and proceed to the next entry in your PATTERN worklist.

Result

Depending on the Update options you selected, your activities will have the following results:

In this example, all existing texts containing the source text Programm plus language-independent characters will automatically be translated with the target text Program plus the same language-independent characters.
