FI-SL Functionality: Master Files

For each dimension in the database table, you can define master files in the ABAP Data Dictionary. Master files can contain data for each dimension that is used in a database.

The FI-SL System uses master files to:

You also use master file information in document input, allocations, planning, and Report Writer.

For standard dimensions, such as Account, Company Code, and Cost Center, FI-SL uses master file information from other SAP applications. However, if you create new dimensions in FI-SL that are not found in other SAP applications, you will need to create master file information for the new dimensions.

You can define FI-SL master files at the client level and/or at the company level. When searching for master file information, the system first checks for master file information at the company level. If master file information does not exist at the company level, the system checks for master file information at the client level for all companies.

Each master file change is logged with a change date, so that you can reconstruct the master file definition for any dates in the past. (This feature only applies to dimensions maintained in FI-SL and not for master files in other applications.)

FI-SL Master Files

For standard dimensions, you use master files from other SAP applications; however, if you have created a new dimension within the FI-SL System, you need to enter master file information for the new dimension. You use the Integrated Master Data function to define additional master file information that is not included in other applications.

    1. A dimension in your database table includes the dimension Special Region.
    2. There is no master file information for the dimension Special Region in the source system.

You must create a group of valid special region codes for the dimension Special Region within the FI-SL System.

You should only maintain master file information in FI-SL when (1) you want to add master file information only for FI-SL (and not other applications), or (2) the data is not stored in another application.

In the FI-SL master files, you can enter values for a dimension, as well as language-specific text, which describes each value.

You can only create master file information for the dimensions that are specifically defined for FI-SL in table T800D (FI-SL Data Dictionary). For information about adding dimensions to table T800D, see the Maintain Integrated Master Data step in the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Special Purpose Ledger.

You can create FI-SL tables with names other than T830X, which contain your FI-SL master file values and text. These tables have the same structure as the T830A and T831A tables. For information about creating FI-SL tables for master files and text, see the Implementation Guide (IMG) for Special Purpose Ledger.

Master files that are defined within FI-SL only validate data on a field-by-field basis.

The master file could validate a region, but it cannot validate whether a region is valid for specific countries.
