Creating Master Data

Use

You create master file values when you first set up the master files, or when no information currently exists for a master file.

If you add the dimension Profit Center to the FI-SL coding block, you can create Profit Center values in your master files.

Each dimension has its own master file. You can enter FI-SL master file values for individual local/global companies or for all of the companies within a client. It is possible to have a mixture of master file values for all companies and for individual local/global companies.

For the dimension Profit Center you can enter one set of master file values for one local/global company and another set of master file values for all of the companies within the client.

Procedure

To create master file values:

  1. Choose Accounting ® Financial accounting ® Spec. Purpose Ledger, then Environment ® Integr. master data ® Create.
  2. The Create Master Data: Initial Screen appears.

  3. Enter the following data:
  4. – Table name for the dimension values that you want to create.

    – Database field name to which the master file values will refer.

    – Beginning date for the master file values

    – End date for the master file values

  5. Set the following indicators as required:
  6. – Select Do not post, if you do not want a user to post actual data for this master data.

    – Select Invalid for plan, if you do not want a user to use this master data for planning.

  7. Choose Enter.
  8. A dialog box appears.

  9. Enter the name of the local/global company that uses the master file values.
  10. If the master file values are for all companies, leave this field blank.

  11. Choose Enter.
  12. The Create Master Data: Basic Screen appears.

  13. Enter the following data:
  14. – A value for the dimension.

For example, if you are entering information for the dimension Business Area, you could enter 0001 for the first value, 0002 for the second value, and so on.

    – Brief text for the value, up to 30 characters long

    – Description for the value, up to 50 characters long

    – Beginning date for the value you entered in the Value field.

The system begins validating the value starting from this date; as of this date, the value you entered for the master file definition is valid

    – An end date for the value you entered in the Value field.

The system stops validating the value on this date; as of this date, the value you entered for the master file definition is no longer valid.

  15. Set the following indicators as required:
  16. – Select Do not post, if you do not want the system to allow actual data for a value (for example, if you only want to use the value for planning purposes).

If you want the system to allow posting of actual data for this value, leave this indicator blank.

    – Select Do not plan, if you do not want the system to allow planning for a field value.

If you want the system to allow planning with this value, leave this indicator blank.

  17. To save the information entered, choose Master Data ® Save.

Result

You have created master data for a new dimension. Alternatively, you have created master data for an existing dimension for which no master data had previously been created.
