The material data connection means that you can use AutoCAD to create a bill of material in the SAP System via the AutoCAD-SAP interface.

Each BOM item generated in the SAP system must refer to a material master record. This means that you must create a reference between every item contained in the drawing and a material master record in the SAP System.

The material data connection functions help you to create these references. If you use GENIUS or GENIUS Desktop, and a part from the GENIUS database is used in the drawing, you only need to create the reference once. This reference is stored in the GENIUS database and in the drawing – this means that it is available for further uses of the part in question. In the case of all other parts used, the reference is stored in the drawing.
