Status of the Database System

SAPDBA provides you with information about the status of your database system at various locations. Some of these possibilities are listed here:

Status displays: The initial SAPDBA screen already shows you the status of your database system.

ORACLE_SID, ORACLE_HOME of the local instance are displayed

INSTANCE: The status of the local database instance is displayed (e.g. Instance shut down, open)

SAPR3: There is a check whether a sapr3 user is connected to the database ( connected, not connected).

Instance information: Further information about the database instances can be obtained using the menu option Instance information.

SELECTED INSTANCE	Name of the instance (e.g. C11)
INSTANCE STATUS	Status of the instance (e.g. shutdown, mounted, opened)
INSTANCE HOME	Local home directory (e.g. /oracle/C11)
CONNECTED PROGRAMS	Number of processes connected with the database (e.g. 1)
SAPR3	Logon status of user sapr3 ( connected, not connected)

a	- Select remote instance
b	- Select local instance
c	- Show summary of all instances
d	- Refresh
q	- Return

This menu option should help you to obtain information about all the instances involved if your ORACLE database has an OPS configuration. You can obtain the specified status information for both the local instance (default value or Select local instance) and the other parallel instances (Select remote instance). With Show instance summary you can obtain an overview of all the parallel instances.

If you have a non-OPS installation, the instance information does not provide you with any new information. In this case, the information in the status display of the initial screen should be sufficient.

You can use the menu option Startup/Shutdown instance to start/stop the database instances. In this case, too, the status information for the local instance, the parallel instances, the number of processes logged and user sapr3 is displayed.
