This section describes which characteristics you have to assign when defining process instruction categories of type calculation formula for the R/3 PI sheet.
You need to define the following information in a process data calculation formula by assigning characteristics:
You can define the message characteristics in any sequence. However, the process instruction characteristics pertaining to a message characteristic must be defined in the sequence described in the corresponding section. You determine the sequence of the characteristics using sorting numbers.
When you create a process instruction, the characteristics of the process instruction category are copied to the process instruction. You can, however, change or delete the characteristic assignments in the process instruction.
Characteristic values providing general information, such as the requested message category, can be assigned in the process instruction category. Process-specific values, such as the operation number, can be added to the process instruction in the master recipe or in the process order.

If the value of a characteristic can be assigned automatically in the control recipe or the process order, the "A" indicator (automatic value assignment) is displayed for this characteristic in the instruction category.
