Link Between Standard and Operative Structures

If you have assigned a standard network to a standard WBS, you can create an operative WBS at the same time that you create an operative network. Before you copy a standard network linked to a standard WBS, read the following information.

Do you want to create a operative WBS at the same time that you create an operative network? If yes:

Create a new project definition and choose Create in the Create Network: Project Assignment dialog box. This dialog box is displayed when you save a new network or when you execute the Replace Standard WBS function.

A new operative work breakdown structure is created with the project name you entered. The system copies those standard WBS elements which have assignments to the standard network as well as their superior elements.

The following graphic shows you the result of copying a standard network assigned to standard WBS elements, as well as the operative work breakdown structure and operative network.

Do you want to create a operative network and assign it to an existing operative work breakdown structure? If yes:

Enter an existing project definition in the network header or in the Create Network: Project Assignment dialog box. This dialog box is displayed when you save a new network or when you execute the Replace Standard WBS function.

The system assigns the network to the existing project in the same manner as the standard network is assigned to the standard WBS.

If the standard network has an assignment to a standard WBS element that is not currently in the existing operative WBS, the system will expand the WBS to include this WBS element.

Do you want to create an operative network and assign it to an existing operative WBS element? If yes:

Enter an operative WBS element either in the header or in the activity of the new operative network. The header or activity will be assigned to that WBS element. Once you have entered the WBS element, the system will ignore all assignments that may exist to the standard WBS

When you copy from a standard network, the assignments to a standard WBS are only created in the first generation operative WBS.
