Creating Project Objects by Copying 

Procedure

In the Project Builder there are several ways of creating project objects by copying:

Creating a Project or Network Directly by Copying

Creating a project by copying

Choose and then in the list box Copy project.

or

In the (empty) structure tree choose New
->Copy project from the context menu.

A dialog box appears in which you enter the name of the project or the standard project that you want to use as a template for the new project.

 

You can use F4 help to display all the project that are saved in the database.

If you have already opened a project in the Project Builder, a warning appears before you close this project.

Creating a network by copying

Choose and then in the list box Copy network.

or

In the (empty) structure tree choose New
->Copy network from the context menu.

A dialog box appears in which you enter the name of the network or the standard network that you want to use as a template for the new project.

Using Drag & Drop

  1. In the Templates screen area, select the project object (for example, standard WBS element or an activity in a simulation version).
  2. Keeping the left-hand mouse button pressed, drag the project object to the required position in the structure tree.

If you use drag & drop to create project objects, the new object is always subordinate to the object it is positioned after in the project hierarchy.

Using Double-Click or the Context Menu

The following table informs you how to use double-clicks and the context menu to create new projects and networks..

Or select a WBS element and choose Create in the context menu

Copies the WBS element and inserts the copy at the selected position. You can insert the new WBS element at the same level as the selected WBS element or below it in the hierarchy. Assignment to the WBS element (for example, long texts, Ps texts, milestones etc.) are copied with the WBS element. Creating a network by copying

WBS element or network has been selected in the structure tree

Double-click on the network that is to serve as the template or

In the context menu choose Create.

Copies the network and inserts the copy at the selected position. The new network is subordinate to the selected WBS element or network in the hierarchy.

 

From the Standard templates group

Or select the standard WBS element and choose Create in the context menu

Copies the standard WBS element and inserts the new WBS element at the selected position. You can insert the new WBS element at the same level as the selected WBS element or below it in the hierarchy. Assignment to the WBS element (for example, long texts, Ps texts, milestones etc.) are copied with the WBS element. Assignments to the WBS element are also copied.

Creating a standard network by copying

WBS element has been selected in the structure tree

Double-click on the standard network that is to serve as the template

Or select the standard network and choose Create in the context menu

Copies the standard network and inserts the new network at the selected position.

 

If you have not stored project data in the templates or require more templates, you can access other templates from the database by choosing Create with other template in the context menu.
