Editing Data Requests in the PI Assistant

Prerequisites

You want to edit a process data request for the R/3 PI sheet.

You have created the process data request in the master recipe and called the process instruction assistant (PI assistant); see Editing Process Instructions in the PI Assistant.

If you can only define some of the data request data, such as the value of a message characteristic, when you are in the process order, you can leave the relevant field blank in the master recipe.

Procedure

  1. On the first screen, check and, if necessary, correct the settings for the type of data request.
    1. Set the indicator for the corresponding data request type.
    2. If you define a repeated data request, enter the minimum and maximum number of lines for the input table if required.
    3. Choose Next screen.
  1. On the second screen, check and, if necessary, correct the message category assignment to the data request.
    1. Enter the message category of the process message to be created for the process instruction in the PI sheet.
    2. To help you select the message category, the assistant displays all characteristics of the assigned message category on this screen.

    3. If you define a repeated data request, choose Insert MessCategory for every additional message category and enter the message category key.
    4. If you have assigned several message categories, use the sort numbers to specify the message category sequence.
    5. If you define a repeated data request, select the message category whose processing data you want to enter in the next step.
    6. Choose Next screen.
  1. On the third screen, check and, if necessary, correct the selection and processing of the message characteristics and variables you want to copy to the process instruction.
    1. Set the selection indicator for the characteristics of the process message category you want to copy to the process instruction, and thus to the corresponding process message.
    2. If you want to add characteristics to the process message that are not defined for the message category, choose Add. char. (Insert additional characteristic) and select the characteristic you want to add.
    3. If you want to display additional variable values in the PI sheet, choose Output variable and enter the variable name.
    4. Set the Input indicator for characteristics whose values you want to enter in the PI sheet.
    5. Set the Output indicator for characteristics whose values are to be displayed in the PI sheet.
    6. For characteristics that are also marked as input values, you can use this indicator to display a planned value deviating from an actual value.
The Output indicator is automatically set for variables.

    7. If the unit of measure is to be displayed after a numeric input value, set the UM indicator for this input value.
    8. You can only do so if the standard characteristic for the unit of measure is contained in the process instruction and the Input indicator is not set for the unit of measure in the process instruction.

    9. Choose Next screen.
  1. On the fourth screen, check and, if necessary, correct the short texts and the sequence of the input and output values.
    1. Use the sort numbers to specify the sequence of the input and output values.
    2. Enter short texts for the input and output values.
    3. If you define several output values in simple data requests and want them displayed in the same line, enter a short text for the first output value only.

    4. If you want to group several values under a common heading in a simple data request, choose Group and enter the heading.
    5. Enter the appropriate sort number to specify where the heading is to be displayed.
    6. In the PI sheet, all values following this heading are indented.

    7. Choose Next screen.
  1. On the fifth screen, check and, if necessary, correct the data on how the message characteristics are to be processed in the PI sheet.

If you enter long texts, do not use character formats such as bold or italics. They are not taken into account in the PI sheet

For hidden characteristics and output values:

    1. Select the message characteristic and choose Enter.
    2. In the Default value group box, specify value assignment for the characteristic.
    3. If required, enter a variable name for the characteristic value in the Variable definition group box and specify the variable’s validity area.

For input values:

    1. Select the message characteristic and choose Enter.
    2. In the Default value group box, specify whether a default value is to be displayed for the input value and how it is determined.
    3. Check and, if necessary, correct the validation rule in the Input validation group box.

If you have assigned a check function, choose Function module parameters and check the data entered for parameter value assignment.

You cannot define an input validation for the standard characteristic Signature. Depending on the type of signature defined in the control recipe destination, you enter the following data:

– For signatures with a simple password check:
details on the authorization check

– For digital signatures
details on the authorization check,
signature strategy and signature process

    1. If you define a numeric input value, enter a variable name for the characteristic value in the Variable definition group box if required and specify the variable’s validity area.
  1. If you are editing a repeated data request, choose Next screen.
  2. The system takes you back to the second screen.
  3. Select the next message category and repeat steps 3 to 5.
  4. When you have edited all message categories, check the process instruction and, if necessary, correct errors (see Checking Process Instructions in the PI Assistant).
  5. When you have finished editing the data, choose Copy and save the master recipe.

If you have not corrected all errors when exiting the process instruction assistant, the error log is displayed. However, to call the process instruction assistant again and correct the errors, you must first go back to the overview of process instruction categories by choosing Continue.
