Mass change

Use

If you work with complex long-running projects, for instance in make-to-order manufacturing, it is often necessary to make large scale changes to master data or assignments. You can use mass changes the change projects and networks in a just a few steps.

Prerequisites

Please note that the mass changes function is a very powerful tool, with which you can change projects and networks drastically. These changes cannot be undone. Therefore you must have the requisite knowledge, if you want to use mass changes.

The system only makes changes to projects and networks , if the corresponding prerequisites are met and the business transaction is allowed. For instance the system can only set the Completed status , if the network or work breakdown structure has the status Released or Technically completed.

You have to have the authorizations necessary for changing the objects in question.

Features

You can make the following changes with mass changes.

You cannot process the following objects with mass changes:

Activities

You can call up mass changes

In both cases you can either execute it online or schedule it as a background job.

You can select data for mass change in different ways:

In this case you select the fields to change, before the system selects the projects and/or networks. The system displays all the objects that can be processed with mass changes, irrespective of the actual structure of the project or network. For instance the object Relationships is displayed even if there are no relationships in the network in question.

The system selects projects and networks, when you execute the mass changes.

The system first selects the projects and/or networks. To select the fields, you can go to a table view and change fields there. In the table view you can see an overview of all the objects that can be changed in the selected projects and networks.

As long as you are in the table view, you can cancel the intended changes. You can also compare the old and new values. You can thus check individual changes, before executing them. You can also make individual changes, for instance by changing the MRP planner in just some of the selected networks.

The system executes the changes network by network and project definition by project definition. This means that the mass change treats each network and each project definition as a separate unit, independently of their assignments. If, for instance, the system cannot change field values in a network, the system does not make any changes to this network. However, if you have selected several networks or project definitions and no further error occur, the system makes the changes in these networks/projects.

You have selected projects, which have assignments to networks. In WBS elements you can generally change the business area and in the network activities the work centers. The system discovers during the check that one of the work centers, you have entered, does not exist. Consequently the system does not make any changes to the network activities. On the other hand, the system changes the business area in the WBS elements, as no errors were found.

If you want to make mass changes for a single project, it is quickest and easiest to do this in the project planning board or structure planning. When you save the project, the system saves the changes.
