Configuration Changes in Networks 

Purpose

You can adapt a network to changes in configuration, if for instance, a network has links to a sales order and the characteristic value in this sales order changes.

Prerequisites

In Customizing the Project System you have to define change profiles (in Structures ® Operative structures ® Network) Here you determine how the system show react if there are conflicts arise in the change comparison (for example what happens if a component is to be deleted but a purchase order already exists for it).

Process flow

1. Changing the Characteristic Value Assignment

The c haracteristic value assignment can be changed in the network header by choosing Extras ® Configuration ® Characteristic value assignment

If the characteristic value assignment has been copied from a sales document, you can only change it in the sales document. It can only be displayed in the network.

2. Change Comparison

In order to determine which change steps are necessary as a result of a change in configuration, a change comparison is carried out.

This is done immediately.

If the characteristic value assignment is changed in a sales document that was assigned to the network manually, the change comparison can be created in the network.

The change comparison produces the necessary change steps for the objects that are affected by a change in configuration (which objects have to be deleted, added or changed).

3. Executing the Change Steps

These change steps are executed automatically as long as no conflicts occur. The change steps that have been executed and those that are to be executed are listed in an overview together with conflicts that have arisen.

Her you can - after the causes of the conflicts have been removed if necessary - trigger the change steps that are not executed automatically.

4. Concluding the Change in Configuration

As long as not all the change steps have been executed or if some change steps have the status Do not execute, the network header has the status Manual adjustment necessary. This status does not allow another change to the configuration or scheduling of the network.

If all the change steps have been processed, you can close the change comparison. As a result the Manual adjustment necessary status is removed.

Result

All change comparisons are saved with the corresponding administrative data (change date, user, change comparison status as well as the old and new characteristic value assignment): To go to change management from the network header choose Extras ® Configuration ® Change management.
