Use this option to generate bin locations in batches.

SAP Business One allows you to preview the bin locations before you generate them.

To select this option, proceed as follows:

  1. From the SAP Business One Main Menu, choose   Inventory   Bin Locations   Bin Location Management  .

  2. In the Bin Location Management window, select Generate Bin Locations in the Management Task field.

Bin Location Codes

Use this section to define the codes for the bin locations you want to generate.

Warehouse From ... To

Specify the warehouses in which the bin locations you want to generate are physically located.

You can select a range of warehouses from the dropdown lists of warehouses which have bin locations enabled.

In SAP Business One, the bin location code comprises the warehouse code, the sublevel codes, and the bin location code separator you defined.

<Sublevel 1/2/3/4> From ... To

Specify the sublevel codes that represent the physical location of the bin.

You can select a range of sublevel codes from the dropdown lists.

In SAP Business One, the bin location code comprises the warehouse code, the sublevel codes, and the bin location code separator you defined.

Note Note

Only the sublevels you have activated are available.

By default, SAP Business One activates sublevel 1 for you. To activate other warehouse sublevels, go to Bin Location Field Activation Window.

Bin Location Properties

Use this section to define the properties for the bin locations you want to generate.

Inactive

Indicates that the bin locations you want to generate are inactive.

Once a bin location is inactive, you cannot use it for any purposes until you activate it again.

Receiving Bin Location

Select the checkbox to indicate the bin locations you want to generate are receiving bin locations.

A receiving bin location is a special section in a warehouse which typically represents a receiving inspection area for temporary storage of incoming goods. After the inspection is completed, the goods are then placed in storage bin locations.

Once you enable receiving bin locations for a warehouse and designate a bin location in the warehouse as a receiving bin location, this bin location is used automatically to store the items received externally from your vendors or customers.

Description

If required, enter a description of the bin locations you want to generate.

Alternative Sort Code

If required, enter an alternative sort code for the bin locations you want to generate. The code can be alphabetic letters, numbers, symbols, or a combination of all. You can enter up to 50 characters.

Note Note

SAP Business One automatically applies upper case to any alphabetic letters you enter.

Bar Code

If required, enter a bar code for the bin locations you want to generate. The code can be alphabetic letters, numbers, symbols, or a combination of all. You can enter up to 100 characters.

Minimum Qty

Enter the minimum quantity of items for the bin locations you want to generate.

When the inventory level in a bin location falls below the minimum quantity, you can replenish the bin location to the maximum quantity using either of the following two reports:

  • Bin location list

  • Bin location content list

Maximum Qty

Enter the maximum quantity of items for the bin locations you want to generate.

When the inventory level in a bin location falls below the minimum quantity, you can replenish the bin location to the maximum quantity using either of the following two reports:

  • Bin location list

  • Bin location content list

Item Restrictions

Select one of the following options to indicate the item restriction status of the bin locations you want to generate:

  • None – Indicates a bin location has no item restrictions, that is, the bin location can store any item.

  • Specific Item – Indicates a bin location is restricted to a specific item, that is, the bin location can only store a specific item.

    To specify the item, select an item from the choose from list in the Item field on the right side.

  • Single Item Only – Indicates a bin location is restricted to a single item, that is, the bin location can only store one item.

    You cannot specify which item it is. The first item you put in the bin location becomes the single item. Later, you can view the item in the Current Item field in the Bin Location Master Data window.

    Note Note

    Once you have put the single item in the bin location, you cannot place another kind of item in it unless either of the following situations arises:

    • There is no inventory of the single item in the bin location.

    • There is negative inventory of the single item in the bin location.

      In this case, if you place another kind of item in the bin location, SAP Business One still allows you to receive the original single item till the quantity reaches zero.

  • Specific Item Group – Indicates a bin location is restricted to a specific item group, that is, the bin location can only store items from a specific item group.

    To specify the item group, select an item group from the dropdown list in the Item Group field on the right side.

  • Single Item Group Only – Indicates a bin location is restricted to a single item group, that is, the bin location can only store items from one item group.

    You cannot specify which item group it is. The item group of the first item you put in the bin location becomes the single item group. Later on, you can view the item group in the Current Item Group field in the Bin Location Master Data window.

    Note Note

    Once you have put items from the single item group in the bin location, you cannot place items from another item group in it unless either of the following situations arises:

    • There is no inventory of the single item group in the bin location.

    • There is negative inventory of the single item group in the bin location.

      In this case, if you place items from another item group in the bin location, SAP Business One still allows you to receive the items from the original item group till the quantity reaches zero.

Batch Restrictions

Select either of the following options to indicate the batch restriction status of the bin locations you want to generate:

  • None – Indicates a bin location has no batch restrictions, that is, the bin location can store any items regardless of its batch information.

  • Single Batch – Indicates a bin location is restricted to a single batch, that is, the bin location can only store items from one batch.

    You cannot specify which batch it is. The batch of the first item you put in the bin location becomes the single batch. Later, you can view the batch in the Current Batch field in the Bin Location Master Data window.

    Note Note

    If you restrict a bin location to a single batch, you cannot store non-batch items in the bin location.

    Once you have put a batch in the bin location, you cannot place another batch in it until the inventory of the existing batch reduces to zero.

Transaction Restrictions

Select one of the following options to indicate the transaction restriction status of the bin locations you want to generate:

  • None – Indicates a bin location has no transaction restrictions, that is, the bin location can be used in any relevant transactions.

  • All Transactions – Indicates a bin location is restricted from all transactions, that is, the bin location cannot be used in any transactions.

  • Inbound Transactions – Indicates a bin location is restricted from inbound transactions, that is, the bin location cannot be used to store any incoming flow of goods.

  • Outbound Transactions – Indicates a bin location is restricted from outbound transactions, that is, the bin location cannot be used during the issuing of goods.

    Note Note

    If you have restricted a bin location from inbound or outbound transactions, you can still use the bin location in inventory transfer, counting and posting documents.

  • All Except Inventory Transfer and Counting – Indicates the bin location is restricted to inventory transfer, counting and posting only. That is, the bin location can only be used during inventory transfer, counting and posting.

Reason

If required, enter a reason for the transaction restrictions of the bin locations you want to generate.

Note Note

When there is a transaction restriction, you must specify the reason. If you have selected None in the Transaction Restrictions field, you cannot enter a reason here.
