You can use this process to set up work instructions (see Work Instruction).

Prerequisites

For URL-based work instructions, you have placed work instruction files in a folder on a Web server, such as Microsoft Windows server running Internet Information Services (IIS).

This folder must be managed as a Web site.

Note Note

On the Web server, you may have to add Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions (MIME) types for some file extensions of work instruction files.

On the client device, file extensions of work instruction files must be associated with applications that will display the work instruction contents (see Example: Viewing 3D Model Work Instruction).

End of the note.

Process

  1. In Work Instruction Maintenance, you define a work instruction record for each document you want to display to operators on the floor (see Work Instruction Maintenance).

On the Attached tab page on the Work Instruction Maintenance screen, you specify which objects you want the system to associate a work instruction with. This association determines when and where the system displays the work instruction in the POD.

  2. In Activity Maintenance, you retrieve the following activities and review or change activity rule settings:

  3. In POD Maintenance, you set up one or more PODs to run the Work Instruction Viewer (see POD Maintenance).

If you need operators to be able to choose work instructions from the list of work instructions associated with the selected SFC number, you can also set up PODs to run Work Instruction List.

    Note Note

Work instructions are displayed automatically only if the following is true:

    • The Work Instruction Viewer (WI500) activity rule AUTO_DISPLAY_REQUIRED is set to YES.

    • The work instruction is marked as Required.

    • No work instruction is currently selected in the displayed Work Instruction List POD plug-in.

If multiple work instructions are to be displayed automatically or multiple work instructions have been selected for manual display, the work instructions will be displayed simultaneously.

    End of the note.
  4. If you want to display work instructions in an NC client, specify them on the Work Instructions tab page of NC Client Maintenance (see NC Client Maintenance and NC Clients).
