Procedure documentationSetting Up Work Center PODs

Prerequisites

You have defined the needed lists in List Maintenance (see List Maintenance).

Procedure

  1. On the initial screen of POD Maintenance, specify the POD type and enter the name of this POD.

  2. On the Main tab page, enter the required information. The following table describes fields requiring explanation:

    Field

    Description

    Status

If enabled, allows you to use this POD on the shop floor

    Display Device

Standard (default): Allows you to use this POD on a standard monitor

Touch Screen: Allows you to use this POD on a touch screen monitor

    Display Size

Determines the view size of a Touch POD on the screen

    Small: Medium tablet device

    Medium: Large tablet device

    Large: Touch monitor

    Extra Large: Touch monitor

    NC Client

The nonconformance client for this POD

Use NC Client Maintenance to define the behavior and look of the nonconformance-related buttons (see NC Client Maintenance).

    Real-Time Message Display

Determines how the real-time messages are displayed in the POD:

None: Real-time messages are not displayed in the POD.

Icon: Displays the Real-Time Message Display icon each time a real-time message arrives at the POD.

    Special Instruction Display

The special instruction that is defined for the operation or routing operation on the POD:

None: Does not display the special instruction

Info Message: Displays the special instruction in the POD Message Bar upon starting an SFC number

Popup: Displays the special instruction in a dialog box window upon starting an SFC number

    Session Timeout (mins)

The number of minutes the POD can be inactive before the system logs out the operator

The default value is 30 minutes.

    Sound with Error Messages

If selected, plays back a sound file when an error message is displayed in the POD.

  3. On the Buttons tab page, define the buttons or button groups that appear in the POD (see Defining POD Buttons and Button Groups)

  4. On the Layout tab page, specify the layout for your POD:

    • 1 Panel Horizontal Layout (with Popover): Displays one panel in the POD with a popover panel.

    • 2 Panel Horizontal Layout (with Popover): Displays two panels in the POD with a popover panel.

      Recommendation Recommendation

This type is designed to support touch devices that are big enough to allow for accuracy of a human finger in two panels. We do not recommend that you use popover in a tablet as it causes panels to be small and buttons difficult to push with accuracy.

      End of the recommendation.
    • 1 Panel Vertical Layout (with Popover): Displays one panel in the POD with a popover panel from the right

    • 3 Panel Horizontal Layout (with Popover) (default): Displays one panel in the upper part of the POD, and two panels in the lower part of the POD with a popover panel from the lower right

    • 3 Panel Vertical Layout (with Popover): Displays one panel in the left part of the POD, and two panels in the right part of the POD with a popover panel from the lower right

    • 6 Panel Horizontal Layout: Displays two panels in the upper part of the POD, one panel in the middle, and three panels in the lower part of the POD

    • 6 Panel Vertical Layout: Displays two panels in the left part of the POD, and four panels in the right part of the POD

  5. Configure plug-ins that are displayed in various panels on the POD:

    Column

    Description

    Panel

Displays the part from the graphic that identifies this panel

    Type

Displays the type of layout specified for the panel: Popover, Popup, or Fixed

    Default Plug-In

The activity ID associated with the default plug-in for the panel

This field is grayed out when the value is Popup or Popover.

Note that default plug-ins only apply to fixed panels

    Other Plug-Ins

Allows you to associate one or more additional plug-ins to the panel in addition to the default plug-in identified in the Activity ID column by inserting new rows in the table on the Other Plug-In Details screen.

Note that this plug-in replaces the plug-in that currently occupies the panel when the operator initiates an activity that requires the panel. When the activity is complete and the system or the user closes this plug-in, the plug-in that previously occupied the panel is redisplayed.

  6. On the List Options tab page, define what the system displays in the lower half of the POD screen:

    Field

    Description

    POD Work List

An appropriate Work List (displays Active and Complete Pending status) that has been configured in List Maintenance. The list appears when the operator clicks the browse icon next to the Main Input field.

    Assemble List

An appropriate Assemble list that has been configured in List Maintenance

    Operation List

An appropriate Operation list that has been configured in List Maintenance

    DC Collect List

An appropriate DC Collect list that has been configured in List Maintenance

    Tool List

An appropriate Tool list that has been configured in List Maintenance

    Work Instruction List

An appropriate Work Instruction list that has been configured in List Maintenance

    DC Entry List

An appropriate DC Entry list that has been configured in List Maintenance

    Substep List

An appropriate Substep list that has been configured in List Maintenance

  7. On the POD Selection tab page, define what the system displays in the POD screen:

    Field

    Description

    Main Input

The label for the SFC field in the Work Center POD. This field label can be updated to a customer value to match their manufacturing process. For example, you can enter a value to indicate that the shop order number is expected in the field.

    Default value: I18N[sfc.default.LABEL]

I18N is an abbreviation for the word internationalization. The text between the brackets is the identifier for the label. If you want your label to be internationalized, you must use the format of the default value with the label identifier you want.

    Default Work Center

The name of the work center that the system displays in the Work Center field when an operator opens the Work Center POD. If you leave this field blank, no work center is displayed. Supplying this value eliminates the need for the operators to enter it every time they open the Work Center POD.

    Default Resource

Displays the selected resource in the POD. Use in conjunction with Resource Can Be Changed and Show Resource.

    Substep Group

The name of the subset group that the system displays in the Substep Group field when an operator opens the Work Center POD. If you leave this field blank, no substep group is displayed.

    SFC Queue Button ID

The button ID of the activity that is executed when the user enters a value in the SFC field and tabs out of the field when an SFC number is In Queue at the selected operation.

Note that the button ID should be a normal not a group button type.

    SFC In Work Button ID

The button ID of the activity that is executed when the user enters a value in the SFC field and tabs out of the field when an SFC number is In Work at the selected operation.

Note that the button should be a normal button not a group button.

    Resource Can Be Changed

If selected, allows the operator to enter a different value in the Resource field from the one displayed. Use in conjunction with Default Resource and Show Resource.

    Show Quantity

If selected, displays the Quantity field. Operators can process partial quantities by entering a number less than the entire SFC quantity.

    Show Resource

If selected, displays the Resource field. The resource will be associated with the SFC as it is processed.

    Note Note

If Default Resource is used and in the Work Center POD, the user enters a different resource value from the specified default, the system uses the resource entered by the user. If the user leaves the Resource field blank, the system uses the resource value specified in the Default Resource field in Operation Maintenance. If no value is specified in Operation Maintenance, the system uses the value specified in the Default Resource rule in System Rule Maintenance at the site or global level, respectively.

    End of the note.

    Show User

If selected, displays the User field. Operators can enter a value to limit the SFCs displayed to the entered user.

    Show Substep Group

If selected, displays the Substep Group field. Operators can enter a substep group into the field to show only that substep group in the Substep List plug-in.

    Show SFC

If selected, displays the SFC field in the POD Selection Work Center plug-in.

  8. If required, specify printers for specific document types on the Printers tab page (see Document Maintenance).

  9. On the Custom Data tab page, enter values in the fields defined for this POD in Custom Data Maintenance (see Custom Data Maintenance).

  10. Save your entries.
