Function documentationConsumption by Production

In advanced production integration, you can post consumption for the product used by production. When you post consumption, the system posts goods issue for the products. SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM) sends a goods movement document to SAP ERP to update the manufacturing order there.

You can reverse the consumption for products that have been posted as consumed by production.

You can post consumption in SAP EWM on your desktop, or by using radio frequency (RF) transactions.

Features

  • Consumption on the desktop

When you first enter the Consumption by Production screen, you enter the warehouse number in the settings. You need to do this only once for each user.

You can specify serial numbers and catch weight valuation quantities for appropriate materials.

  • Consumption using RF transactions

The following RF transactions are available:

    • Consumption by Manufacturing Order

You can use this transaction to post consumption for packed goods and unpacked goods.

    • Reversal of Consumption by Manufacturing Order (HU)

You can use this transaction to reverse consumption for packed goods.

    • Reversal of Consumption by Manufacturing Order (Bin)

You can use this transaction to reverse consumption for unpacked goods.

  • Consumption

You can post consumption for products in production material requests (PMRs) where the status of the PMR is Released or Technically Completed.

You cannot post consumption for products that have been marked for backflush. For more information, see Overview of Production Integration Types.

You can post consumption for products that are staging-relevant, that is, products that must be picked and staged, from a production supply area (PSA) only. You can reverse consumption to the same PSA only.

You can consume product that are not relevant for staging, for example, products that are stored in a silo, from every bin in the warehouse.

You can post consumption for packed materials and unpacked materials.

  • Reversal of consumption

You can reverse consumption for the entire quantity of the product or for a partial quantity.

During reversal, partial quantities of a handling unit (HU) quantity are always reversed to the same HU. Depending on the system configuration, when the entire quantity in the HU is consumed, the system deletes the HU. If you reverse the consumption for this HU, the system recreates the HU using the same attributes, especially with the same external number and packaging material. Note that if the HU is used in a hierarchy, for example, nested HUs, this information is not recreated.

Reversal quantities and attributes are independent of the quantities and attributes of the consumption. That is, you do not cancel a specific previous consumption posting; instead, you reverse quantities of the product consumed. For example, if you consumed 100 EA, you can reverse 2 EA. Or if you consumed 2 EA of a product 10 times, you can reverse 5 EA in one step.

The system takes the stock attributes goods receipt date and the shelf life expiration date from the reversed stock and updates the current stock attributes based on the settings in the storage type, for example, whether the earliest or most recent shelf life expiration date should be used

  • Quantities

You can post consumption for the entire quantity of the product at once, or you can post consumption for partial quantities of the product at intervals. You also can post consumption for a greater quantity of a product than was planned in the PMR.

For consumption of partial quantities, you can post the consumption based on the quantity that has been consumed or the quantity that remains.

    Example Example

You have a pallet that contains 20 boxes of a product. 3 boxes remain on the pallet.

If you know how many boxes were there to begin with, you can post consumption based on the 17 boxes that have been consumed.

If you do not know how many boxes were there to begin with, you can post consumption based on the 3 boxes that are left, and the system calculates the number of boxes that have been consumed.

    End of the example.
  • Batches in restricted use

You can post consumption for all stock of the stock type of the PMR item that is available on the PSA and does not have the status Restricted. In the standard system, you cannot post consumption for a batch that has the status Restricted. The system uses stock-relevant attributes in the PMR item to determine the available stock, for example, the owner of the stock.

For more information, see Batches in Staging and Consumption

  • Serial Numbers

You can consume and reverse consumption of serial-numbered stock
