Function documentationBatches in Staging and Consumption

You can perform staging and consumption for a batch managed product using production material requests (PMRs). SAP ERP transfers the data from the manufacturing order to SAP Extended Warehouse Management (SAP EWM), including the batch information.

When you work with a batch managed product and PMRs, you have the following options for handling the batch:

  • You do not enter any batch information in the manufacturing order.

  • You enter the batch number in the manufacturing order in SAP ERP, either manually or through batch determination in SAP ERP.

  • You enter batch selection criteria in the manufacturing order in SAP ERP.

Prerequisites

  • If you want to stage and consume a batch with the status Restricted, you have maintained the following in Customizing for Extended Warehouse Management:

    • You have allowed the creation of warehouse tasks for batches in restricted use under Start of the navigation path Cross Process Settings Next navigation step Batch Management Next navigation step Batch Status Management Next navigation step Settings for Warehouse Task Creation End of the navigation path.

    • You have allowed goods issue for batches in restricted use under Start of the navigation path Goods Issue Process Next navigation step Production Material Request Next navigation step Batch Management for Production End of the navigation path.

  • If you want to allow the consumption of batches that do not meet the batch selection criteria in SAP ERP, you have deactivated the check of the batch selection criteria in Customizing for Extended Warehouse Management under Start of the navigation path Goods Issue Process Next navigation step Production Material Request Next navigation step Batch Management for Production End of the navigation path.

Features

  • SAP EWM uses the batch or the batch selection criteria to ensure that you use a batch that fulfills the requirements transferred from SAP ERP.

You can display the batch data in SAP EWM, but you cannot change it.

For PMRs that contain batches or batch selection criteria, the system uses the staging method single-order staging only, to ensure that each manufacturing order gets a batch that fits to its requirements.

  • When creating a warehouse task for the PMR that contains batch information, SAP EWM takes into account only the batches that are allowed for the PMR item in the source stock determination, as follows:

    • If the PMR item does not contain any batch information, the system uses any batch.

    • If the PMR item contains the batch number, the system only uses stock from this batch.

    • If the PMR item contains batch selection criteria, the system uses stock from batches that fit the batch selection criteria only.

  • When you post the consumption of the product by production, the system checks that the batch you are using is allowed for the process. It performs the following checks:

    • In the standard system, if the batch has the status Restricted, you cannot post goods issue for the product.

    • If you have entered a batch in SAP ERP, you cannot post goods issue for a different batch.

    • In the standard system, if you have entered batch selection criteria in SAP ERP, you cannot post goods issue for a batch that does not match the batch selection criteria.
