Refers to rights owned with a granting reference to one or multiple license acquisition contracts from where the rights were acquired.
The granting reference allows you or the system to identify the acquisition contract to which the consumed rights belong. This is important in a number of cases:
If the rights are acquired with a limited exploitation frequency (that is, number of allowed transmissions), you must define the rights owned with a granting reference so that the system considers the exploitation frequency during rights availability analysis (exploitation frequency information is only provided as rights owned with granting reference information).
If you have acquired the rights to an IP by way of multiple acquisition contracts, (for example, due to differing royalties, validity periods, or exploitation frequency (number of transmissions) available), you must define the rights owned with a granting reference so that the system selects only one license acquisition contract to associate when the acquired rights are exploited.
You create rights owned with a granting reference by way of a generation formula
. The generation formula should be configured with the Operation
setting = “Contract Reference” (which copies the rights specified in the license acquisition
contracts to the intellectual property).
Note
Refer to generation formula 0008 (Rights Owned with Granting Reference
) as an example.
Generating Rights Owned With a Granting Reference
In the IP Details
assignment block, move to the Rights Owned Generation
pane and select a generation formula that corresponds with the creation of a granting reference to an acquisition contract.
Select Generate Rights
.
Creating Rights Owned Generation Formulas
You define the rights owned generation formulas by way of the Define Formulas for Generating the Rights Owned
Customizing activity (in SAP Customizing for Customer Relationship Management, select ).
Note
The generation formula should be configured with the Operation
setting = “Contract Reference”. (which copies the rights specified in a contract to the Intellectual Property). Refer to generation formula 0008 (Rights Owned with Granting Reference
)
as an example.
You have an IP for the rights to broadcast a film. The IP includes two acquisition contracts assigned with a granting reference to the contract. The extended collision check, which is initiated during the license sales contract creation process, determines that both contracts have available transmissions. The granting reference to the contract allows you to determine which transmissions are associated with each contract. You view both contracts and determine the following:
In license acquisition contract A, you have one run remaining that expires in one week.
In license acquisition contract B, you have three runs remaining that expire in one year.
Based on this information, you can choose to consume the transmission from license acquisition contract A.
