Comparing and Synchronizing Launchpads

You can easily compare and synchronize different launchpads. This is useful, for example, when you have customized a SAP-delivered launchpad. If you customize a particular launchpad, those changes are always displayed in the application that calls the launchpad. However, any future updates that SAP delivers to that launchpad are only noticeable in the original, SAP-delivered, version of the launchpad. It then might be necessary to compare the before-and-after versions of the launchpad.

Context

The following steps allow you to compare any two launchpads (not just a SAP-delivered launchpad and its customized version):

Procedure

On the SAP Easy Access screen, enter the transaction LPD_CUST in the command field.
Open one of the two launchpads you wish to compare.
From the toolbar, choose one of the following menu options:
- To open the original version of the SAP-delivered launchpad that you wish to compare with the launchpad you opened in Step 2, choose Extras Show SAP Version.
- To open any other launchpad, choose Copy from other Launchpad.
In the navigation area, the two launchpads appear alongside each other.
To help you distinguish the differences between the contents of the launchpads, the following indicators may be displayed next to folders or applications:
- a plus sign (+)
  This sign indicates that the folder or application is not present in the other launchpad.
- an asterisk (*)
  This sign indicates that the folder or application has been changed from the original folder or application. This sign will only ever be displayed in the launchpad on the right-hand side of the navigation area.
(Optional) To synchronize the two launchpads, drag and drop the required folders or applications as necessary.
A dialog box appears if you attempt to drag an item from the SAP-delivered launchpad to your customized launchpad if the item already exists in both launchpads. You can choose from the following options:
- Copy
  The item is created as a copy of the original in your customized launchpad. Note that this copy is not linked to the original item. Therefore, a plus sign (+) is displayed next to it in your customized launchpad.
- Update
  All application settings and header texts are updated with the values of the SAP-delivered launchpad. Note that the position of the application in the hierarchy is not changed.
Note

This dialog box is also displayed when you move a folder from the SAP-delivered launchpad to your customized launchpad. In this case, the selected option is valid for all items inside the folder.
