Creating iViews Based on Stored Functions

Use

This type of iView connects to a database application and returns results based on a selected stored procedure.

Prerequisites

  • Prerequisites fulfilled as described in Creating iViews for Databases (JDBC) .

  • Steps 1 and 2 of the new iView wizard are completed as described in Creating iViews for Databases (JDBC) .

System Alias

Choose System Alias

1. Choose a system alias.

2. Choose Next .

A particular system object may have a number of aliases defined for it.

Function Finder

Define Data Retrieval Model

  • Function Group

  • Function Name

3. Choose the desired function from the drop-down list of functions available for the selected system.

4. Choose Next .

Existing function: Enables you to launch a function that has been predefined in the system from which you are retrieving data.

For large systems, entering valid values for Function Group and/or Function Name filters the number of predefined functions returned, thereby improving performance.

This screen displays input, output, or input/output parameters that are valid for the function module you selected in the previous step.

5. Enter values where necessary. (Mandatory fields are indicated by an asterisk.)

6. Choose Next.

After the iView is created, you may modify the property values as needed. You may want to determine which parameters have fixed values, and which can be personalized by portal users at runtime.

7. Review the options defined for the new iView and choose Finish .

To make changes, choose Back until you return to the appropriate screen.

 

What's Next

8. Choose your next step and click OK .

  • You have the option of opening the object Property Editor at the end of the wizard.

    The iView may need editing before it can be used as intended.

    If you want to define the new iView as a template, by setting the Object is a Template property to Yes.

  • You have the option of restarting the wizard to create a new iView.

 

Result

A JDBC Stored Procedure iView based on JDBC is created in the selected folder.

You may preview the iView in several ways; see Managing Objects in the Portal Catalog and Using Object Editors . If needed, you may edit the default properties in the Editing Object Properties .
