Creating Portal Objects
Use
You can create portal objects in a number of ways:
-
By copying-and-pasting objects that already exist in the Portal Catalog and then modifying their content
-
By uploading objects from remote sources and modifying them as needed
-
By creating new objects based on a standard portal template, using the object-creation wizards
For more information about the types of available portal content objects, see What Are Portal Content Objects? and What Are Workcenter Roles and Freestyle Roles?
For more information about creating portal objects, see:
Prerequisites
To view a template in an object-creation wizard, you must have access permissions to the template.
For more information, see Permission Levels .
Procedure
Creating a Folder
You use folders to store and organize portal objects in the Portal Catalog. Assigning access permissions to folders is a convenient means of allocating authorizations and content to portal administrators in your organization.
-
In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the folder that will contain the new folder, choose . The New Folder wizard appears.
-
In the Folder Properties step, enter the properties to define the new folder. The following table lists important notes about some of the folder properties:
Property
Description and Notes
Folder ID
May contain upper-case and lower-case alphanumeric characters (a-z; A-Z; 0-9), underscores (_), dashes (-), tilde (~) and parentheses. Do not include other special characters or spaces. The ID must not exceed 100 characters.
Folder ID Prefix
Facilitates locating folders by naming them according to a specific naming convention.
Master Language
The original language in which the properties of the object are generated and maintained. When creating content objects, decide on a master language that is common to most users in your environment, and which serves a the initial maintenance language.
Typically, when creating content packages - such as assigning iViews to pages - you should use objects defined with the same master language.
This property cannot be changed once the wizard creates the object.
-
Complete the wizard.
A new folder inherits the permissions of its parent folder. For more information, see How Are Object Properties Inherited? .

In the Portal Catalog, in the context menu of the folder that will contain the new object, use the New option as follows:

Creating a Template
You can create standardized templates from existing portal objects. Templates are used to create other portal objects using the same iView, page, and system wizards. They serve as the base for creating units of content assigned to portal pages, roles, and worksets.
-
In the Properties editor, edit the object that is to serve as the basis of the template.
-
Locate the Is a Template property and select the checkbox. This converts the non-template object to a template.
