Function documentationConfigure Work Stations in OR

In principle, work stations are freely definable by the user. Some examples of typical work stations in the surgery area are given below:

OR Coordinating Unit

The OR coordinating unit organizes operations in the surgery area and executes changes in the current OR plan.

Unplanned surgeries (emergencies) can be processed by the OR coordinating unit into the current OR schedule on a short-term basis according to room-related and personnel requirements and then processed like planned surgeries.

  • Surgeries can be cancelled

  • Surgeries can be moved to other appointments

  • Surgeries can be moved to other times or other rooms

Organizational tasks and documentation activities such as setting times and entering surgery documentation are executed at the coordinating unit.

Bacterial Sluice

The sluice receives patients from the transport service and transfers them into the surgery area. The entire day program of surgeries is available to the sluice. The arrival of a patient in the sluice can be highlighted as a Patient Transferred Inward event. The setting of this event informs the coordinating unit and all other work stations that the patient has been sluiced inwards.

Check-In Area

Preparation of the patient takes place in the check-in area, where all work steps relating to the patient can be documented using the Surgeries work station and the surgery monitor, or patient-related in the surgery work station.

Operating Room

The operating room can also be defined as a work station in order to enable the most precise input of times and documentation.

Recovery Room

The recovery room can also be defined as a work station. Times such as entering the recovery room and leaving the recovery room can be entered in realtime in the Surgeries view type.

Post-operative surgery documentation can be entered using the surgery monitor.

Activities

Work stations in surgery are defined as building units. Because work stations differ from other building units (e.g. rooms or bed locations), a new building category must be defined in order to be able to enter work stations.

You configure work stations as follows:

  1. Create a building unit for the work station.

In order to be able to configure work stations in your system you create a new building category with the Work Station indicator. You create building categories in the Implementation Guide under Start of the navigation path Industry-Specific Component for Hospitals Next navigation step Hospital Basic Data Next navigation step Hospital Structure Next navigation step Building Structure Next navigation step Define Building Unit Categories End of the navigation path.

  2. Configure the work stations.

You configure the work stations as building units of the previously defined building category.

For more information, seee Building Units.

You can then assign the work stations to the organizational units and rooms.
