Surgery Request
The surgery request corresponds to the normal request.
See Creating/Changing a Request (Overview Lists)
However, the surgery request also offers the possibility of entering additional data, which is required for surgeries.
The following list includes all changes and additions, which you may require for a surgery request:
Priority
Entry of surgery request priority. If this field is left blank, the priority is determined and preset with a value from the basic data. The default value is the highest priority contained in the basic data for the requested service.
Indication
The diagnosis, which is the reason for the surgery request, can be entered in the Indication
field. You can use the input help (F4) here, to access all diagnoses for a particular patient stored in the system. If the surgery indication has not yet been entered, the diagnosis entry function can be selected using . Any new diagnoses entered here will then be available on the diagnosis selection screen.
Diagnoses
After selection of a diagnosis, the diagnosis description and the localization are transferred into the surgery request.
Services
When entering the requested services, you can enter the short description, the localization, and a freely definable supplementary text. An unlimited number of services can be requested in a single surgery request.
Localization
For each service, you can enter a localization ID code. The localizations available are the same as those for diagnosis data entry. If there are not enough codes available, any additional localization information can be entered in Supplementary Text
.
Note
The system will not check the localizations entered for the requested services against the localization of the surgery indication, as it is possible to request several services with a localization different to that of the indication.
Desired Date and Time
The desired date and time entered can be specified more precisely with the additional entry of Interpretation
(from specified time, to specified time, before, after, etc.). You can select the additional interpretation using the input help.
You can use the Fixed
checkbox for the desired time to specify that the appointment for the surgery can no longer be moved during planning.
Desired Operating Room
In the surgery request you can enter a desired operating room (treatment room), if only a specific room should be considered for the requested surgery, due to organizational or technical reasons. This room is shown the schedule, but can be overwritten.
All primary rooms are available, which are assigned in the performing organizational unit's (OU) basic data (the recipient of your request). In addition, all rooms intended for cross-departmental assignment (e.g. the central surgical OU) can be called using the input help (F4).
If no desired room is entered, the system will determine the room for the requested services from the range of available services. If the same room is proposed in the range of available services for all requested services, this is transferred into the surgery request (see also Defining Operating Rooms).
Estimated Duration of Operation
If an estimated surgery duration is known when the request is made, this can be entered - in minutes - in the Duration
field. This is recommended if the operating surgeon initiates the request him/herself and can already estimate the duration. The estimated duration entered at the time the request is made, is displayed in the schedule, but can be overwritten.
If you do not enter a duration, the system will attempt to determine a duration from the basic data of the requested services. The duration of a surgery results from the preparation duration, execution duration and clean-up duration of a surgery. As room plans are created in the OR plan, the durations which are defined according to the requested service and the corresponding planning object are used in the surgery request.
As the duration, the system calculates the maximum total of all surgeries for the requested services and enters this in the surgery request.
Degree of Infection
In the Degree of Infection
field you can define the surgery type as follows:
Septic
Aseptic
Infectious
When entering, a selection list is available containing entries which you entered in the implementation guide. The planning list displays the selected degree of infection.
If you do not enter a degree of infection, the system will attempt to determine the degree of infection from the basic data of the requested services. The highest available value for degree of infection in the basic data will be copied into the surgery request.
Anesthetist Required
Here you can specify whether an anesthetist is required for the operation. This field can also be preset by the system: If an anesthetist is required for the requested service to be carried out, this is entered in the surgery request.
Patient Consent
This field can be selected if the patient has given his/her consent for the surgery to be carried out.
Surgeon's Release
You set this indicator if the operating surgeon has confirmed the surgery and premedication of the patient can begin.
Premedication Complete
You set this indicator when the patient's premedication has been completed.
Note
The indicators Anesthetist Required, Patient Consent, Surgeon's Release
and Premedication Complete
can also be entered or edited on the Change Request
data screen or in the surgery monitor once the request has been confirmed.
Planned Surgery Team
If it is known, you can enter the planned surgery team when entering the surgery request. The information required consists of the team member's tasks (e.g. surgeon, anesthetist) and the employee ID.
As long as you have not started to enter the surgery team, a potential surgery team is preset from the basic data for the requested services. The resulting "potential surgery team" is merely a list of tasks without concrete assignments to individual employees.
Once you have preset the potential surgery team, it can be manually supplemented with further tasks and persons, and tasks can be modified or deleted.
Tasks:
All tasks defined in the system basic data are available for selection.
Persons
All in-house employees as well as external physicians can be entered. For the following reasons, a personnel listing may not be provided:
The entered employees can belong to different organizational units (OUs) (e.g. anesthesia OU). Only the performing OU is known in the request.
It should be possible to enter people who are not employees, but business partners (e.g. a visiting physician).
To facilitate personnel selection, a task-specific input help is available.
Recommendation
Since the potential surgery team (i.e. the number of tasks) is displayed at the planning stage, providing assistance with surgery team assignment, we recommend that the task proposal be used in connection with the Preset
function when making the request.
Position Type
For each requested service a position type can be preset from the master data of the service.
Fasting indicator
The system presets the Fasting indicator from the basic data of the requested service and saves it for each service.
