A cycle defines how often a nursing or medical service is to be performed for the patient within a specific time frame (for example, three times per day) and how often a drug is to be administered to a patient within a specific time frame as part of a medication order.

You can use cycles in the following i.s.h.med components:

  • Nursing or Nursing Process Documentation

Cycles give rise to cyclical services in Nursing. Cyclical services are nursing services which can be requested, planned, performed, released or confirmed more than once.

Based on the cycle, the system creates multiple appointments for a nursing service. From these appointments you can create usual services in i.s.h.med that are linked to the original service. You can enter these cycles when you request or plan services, or not until you perform services. You can change, cancel, or end existing cycles at any time.

  • Service Management

Cycles give rise to cyclical services in Service Management. Cyclical services are medical services which can be requested, planned, performed, released or confirmed more than once.

Based on the cycle, the system creates multiple appointments for a medical service. From these appointments you can create usual services in i.s.h.med that are linked to the original service. You can enter these cycles when you request or plan services, or not until you perform services. You can change, cancel, or end existing cycles at any time.

You can order cyclical services in the clinical order. See Ordering Cyclical Services.

    Note Note

This function is available to you if you have activated the business function Clinical System Situation-Based Clinical Documentation (ISHMED_SCD).

    End of the note.
  • Medication

Based on cycles and in conjunction with the order duration, the system can generate medication events for the medication order in Medication (for example, for the administration of the drug to the patient).
