Creating Line Graphs
If you select Vital Signs (Line Graph)
or Customer-Specific Data Source for Line Graph
as the data source, the system offers you line graphs.
In order to be able to use line graphs in the Smart Chart, the following prerequisites must be met:
You have configured the vital sign master data for the vital signs (line graph)
data source. You can find information on this under .
For the Customer-Specific Data Source for Line Graph
data source you have configured the BAdI Connection of Customer-Specific Data Sources
. For more information, see Customer-Specific Enhancements.
In order to create a line graph, proceed as follows:
For the Vital Signs (Line Graph)
data source
After selecting the data source, choose Continue
and then choose a catalog under Selection Criteria
. In the next row, enter the abbreviation of the vital sign from the catalog, which should be displayed.
For the Customer-Specific Data Source for Line Graph
data source
Under Selection Criteria
choose a customer-specific data source which you have defined in the BAdI Connection of Customer-Specific Data Sources
.
Select an item for this data source and configure the display properties for this item.
The graph displays numerical values from customer-specific data sources in the measurement unit which you stored in the Unit of Measurement
input field. If, in the BAdI Connection of Customer-Specific Data Sources,
you have defined a different unit of measurement than in the Unit of Measurement
input field, the system automatically converts the unit of measurement stored in the BAdI into the unit of measurement of the graph.
Note
Note that the Smart Chart can only convert units of measurement which are compatible with each other, for example, grams and milligrams.
The graph properties are preset by the graph template settings. In the chart element, you can overwrite the settings transferred from the template if you want to achieve a different design for the graph.
You must define whether and how deviations from normal ranges are to be made visible. To do this, you must first enter reference ranges.
You enter reference ranges as follows:
For the Vital Signs (Line Graph)
data source
For vital signs you enter the reference ranges in the vital sign catalog maintenance.
For the Customer-Specific Data Source for Line Graph
data source
For data from customer data sources you define the reference ranges in the BAdI Connection of Customer-Specific Data Sources
.
Reference ranges are displayed differently in line graphs as follows:
Colored background
The system displays reference ranges on colored backgrounds. You define the colors under Normal Range
. The system displays colored backgrounds for the following data types:
Numerical vital signs
Numerical values from customer-specific data sources
Note
You can also define special colors for the various reference ranges of the graph. You configure additional colors in the Customizing activity .
Colored icons
Alternatively you can indicate deviations from the normal range of the vital sign or the value from the customer-specific data source using special icons in the individual display. These icons are preset in the system and cannot be changed.
You define the display of icons with Individually Highlight Normal Range Violations

You can display icons for the following graph types:
Numerical vital signs
Numerical values from customer-specific data sources
Alphanumerical vital signs
Alphanumerical values from customer-specific data sources
Note
You should only use the Highlight Normal Range Violations
function to display reference ranges for alphanumerical vital signs and alphanumerical values from customer-specific data sources.
Note
Note that the display of values from customer-specific data source in a graph is exclusively a result of the settings in the BAdI Connection of Customer-Specific Data Sources
and this is not subject to a plausibility check.
Note
If you do not specify reference ranges for vital signs or the customer-specific data source, you will be unable to gain information about critical situations from the relevant graph.
Your entries must match the following standard system defaults in order for the Smart Chart to be able to display reference ranges and, where applicable, deviations from the reference ranges, in the graphs:
Normal Range
You have defined a normal range, which consists of a maximum value and a minimum value.
Warning Range
The maximum value of the warning range is greater than the maximum value of the normal range.
The minimum value of the warning range is smaller than the minimum value of the normal range.
The warning range information is optional.
Extreme Range
The maximum value of the critical range is greater than the maximum value of the warning range.
The minimum value of the critical range is smaller than the minimum value of the warning range.
The standard defaults apply both for the Vital Signs (Line Graph)
data source and the Customer-Specific Data Source for Line Graph
data source.
You can define the display range of the y axis for line graphs as follows:
For the Vital Signs (Line Graph)
data source
For vital signs you define the display range in the vital sign catalog maintenance.
For the Customer-Specific Data Source for Line Graph
data source
For values from customer-specific data sources you define the display range of the y axis under Display Properties
with the fields Display Range From
and To
.

Note that in the display range for the data sources Customer-Specific Data Source for Line Graph
and Vital Signs (Line Graph)
this is a required entry.
If you enter minimum and maximum values for the display area, these values then determine the y-interval to be displayed. The interval is then identical for all patients. If data is entered that lies outside of the specified display interval, this fact is indicated in the display. In such cases, you can temporarily extend the y-axis so that all the data is displayed.
