Period Initialization (Task) You use a period initialization task to invert documents of earlier periods, regardless of whether they have been created automatically or manually. The period initialization task inverts documents of previous consolidation periods for all tasks that post documents in the period in which the period initialization task is executed.

You also can invert postings of automatic tasks by selecting either
Automatic Inversion Within a Fiscal Year
or
Automatic Inversion Also in New Fiscal Year
in the properties of the relevant document type.
If you select
Automatic Inversion Also in New Fiscal Year
, this task also inverts documents in the last consolidation period of previous fiscal years.
If you also want to invert manually posted documents of previous periods, you
must
create a period initialization task.
For capitalization and valuation allowances and elimination of interunit profit/loss in transferred assets , period initialization updates the additional financial data from the previous period to the current consolidation period. If you use one or both of these functions, you must use a period initialization task.
The period initialization task is the first task that follows the balance carryforward task .
You have selected either
Automatic Inversion Within a Fiscal Year
or
Automatic Inversion Also in New Fiscal Year
in the properties of the document types that are assigned to automatic posting tasks.
You can set up a period initialization task for the following posting levels :
Adjustment entries and standardizing entries: Here, the period initialization task inverts documents posted by tasks that use posting levels 01 and 10. The status of the period initialization task is displayed only at the consolidation unit level.
Other posting levels: Here, the period initialization task inverts documents that have been posted with posting levels 02, 12, 20, 22, or 30. The task is executable only at the consolidation group level. Accordingly, the status of the period initialization task is displayed only at the consolidation group level.
All posting levels: Here, the period initialization task inverts all documents, regardless of whether they were posted at the consolidation unit level or the consolidation group level. The task is executable only at the consolidation group level. Accordingly, the status of the period initialization task is displayed only at the consolidation group level.
If you use
capitalization and valuation allowances
or
elimination of interunit profit/loss in transferred assets
, you need a period initialization task that does one of the following:
Posts to posting levels 01 and 10
Posts to all posting levels
You can set up single or multiple period initialization tasks.

You might want to set up two period initialization tasks: one for adjustment and standardizing entries, and one for postings at other posting levels.
If you use
capitalization and valuation allowances
or
elimination of interunit profit/loss in transferred assets
, you do not need to create a separate period initialization task. Instead, you can use an existing one that posts to the necessary posting levels.
To set up a period initialization task:
In the process view of the workbench, choose
Consolidation Functions
®
Other Functions
®
Period Initialization
Create a period initialization task.
In task maintenance, specify the posting levels for which the task should be executed.
Save the settings.
Execute the period initialization task in the consolidation monitor.
