Transport: Additional Information The transport system of consolidation has several special features that vary from other SAP applications. To successfully execute transports in consolidation, you need to be aware of these special conditions and take appropriate measures. This section discusses these considerations.
Saving the data modeling that you perform in the Consolidation Workbench triggers the internal generation of tables and other elements of the Data Dictionary. The system generates objects whose technical names are determined at runtime. As a result of this, different technical names can be used for the same business object in different systems. However, the transport system in the SAP system relies on objects having the same name in the source and target system for the transport of Customizing settings. It cannot correctly handle these kinds of name differences for business objects that are identical.
Some consolidation tables also contain data that is only valid in one specific client. You need to make adjustments when transporting into another client in the target system; the transport system does not support these adjustments.
Consolidation uses the following approach to transport objects despite these special conditions: If you use the transport function of the Consolidation Workbench, the system generates a Customizing transport request, which contains special control tables with meta information in addition to the objects and settings to be transported. All of these tables are used as a special container object in which the business relevant objects (consolidation units, versions, tasks, methods) to be transported are embedded automatically. From the view of the transport system, this container is a normal transport object, which you can import into the target system without any problems. There the business objects contained in the container are reconstructed and transferred to consolidation.
The transport procedure of consolidation described here means that you cannot use the transport system to check the objects you selected for the transport: In the object list, you find only a few entries for cross-objects which do not enable you to determine which consolidation objects are contained. You use a special function of the workbench to display a detailed list of the objects to be transported. For more information, see Processing a Transport Request .
In the Consolidation Workbench you can define how the system displays your transports in transport requests of the Transport Organizer . Choose . You have the following options:
Prompt Transport Request Only Once
: If you set this indicator, the system only prompts you to specify the transport request to be used the first time you call up the transport function within a workbench session. The system automatically assigns other transports within the same workbench session to this request.
Recommendation
We do not recommend that you set this indicator. As a result, you can define transport requests for all objects to be transported (for example, one request for consolidation units, another for methods and so on) that are not too complicated and have a manageable volume of data. On the one hand this increases the probability of a successful import into the target system, and on the other hand if the transport is not successful you can transport the objects for which the import failed again.
Stop Using Current Transport Request
: If you set this indicator, you instruct the system to prompt the transport request to be used the next time you call the transport function within the workbench. You can then decide whether you want to use the current request or create a new one. After you have made your decision, the system complies with the status of the
Prompt Transport Request Only Once
indicator
. However, the
Stop Using Current Transport Request
indicator is automatically reset after the first prompt of the transport request.
In the
Tools
view the workbench contains two functions that you can use to check and process your transports. You can use these functions immediately after using the transport function of the workbench; you do not need to release the transport task or request in the Transport Organizer:
List: You can generate a hierarchically structured list that displays all objects contained in the transport request. This list provides you with the information that is contained in the list of transport objects for a normal transport request but cannot be displayed due to the special conditions in consolidation.
Edit: This function gives you a detailed view of the entries contained in the transport request, structured according to the technical transport objects.
