You can modify the search functions of the component Personnel & Organization to meet your requirements.

  • You can define search categories to control which search tools and search criteria are used for which data areas.

  • You can configure and connect search tools.

  • You can configure Open Data Protocol.

Prerequisites

You are familiar with the technical architecture of the search. For more information, see Search.

You are familiar with the functions of the user interfaces for the search in the component Personnel & Organization.

Features

Search Categories

A search category represents the assignment of an object type to a search tool. The search categories defined in Customizing are available to the user in those search functions for the component Personnel & Organization that have the option Search Category or that automatically use a search category.

  • If you perform a search, you define which object type you are searching for by selection from the available search categories. This is derived for the user from the name of the object category.

  • You also define which search tool the system uses for the search. This technical aspect is hidden from the user, unless you want to provide the user with different tools for searching for the same object; in this case, you need to define multiple search categories for each object type and assign a different search tool to each one, and use the name of the search to highlight this difference.

The following default search categories are available for the component Personnel & Organization:

You can define your own search categories. For more information, see Customizing for the component Personnel & Organization and choose Start of the navigation path Search Next navigation step Define Search Categories End of the navigation path.

In Customizing, you also define which search categories are available for which users and for which search function. For more information, see Customizing for the component Personnel & Organization and choose Start of the navigation path Search Next navigation step Group Search Categories End of the navigation path.

You make the specific settings for the search tool used for each search category in the configuration of the relevant search tools (for example, SAP Query).

Search Tool

SAP Query is defined as standard search tool for Personnel & Organization. For more configuration information, see Search Configuration for SAP Query.

Open Data Protocol

In Customizing, the following default settings for Open Data Service are available for communicating with the back-end system:

    The technical model PAO_SEARCH (version 0001) is defined.

    The service PAO_SEARCH_SERVICE (version 0001) is defined and assigned to the technical model PAO_SEARCH.

In the Gateway system, the service PAO_SEARCH_SERVICE needs to have been activated using the application Activate and Edit Services (transaction /IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE).
