Using the Conventional Variant Maintenance Wizard
Use
As of SAP NetWeaver 7.0 EHP2 SP12 there is a new wizard in addition to the conventional one. It has extended functionality and takes you step by step though the variant creation process. The new wizard is displayed by default (you can recognize it from the way it guides you step by step through the process). However, you can switch back to the conventional wizard.
For information about the new maintenance wizard and the switching options, see New Variant Maintenance Wizard.
In the test configuration, on the Variants tab page, if you choose the symbol for the variant maintenance wizard and you have made the correct settings, the conventional variant maintenance wizard will appear. The left half of the screen displays the variants belonging to a test data container. The right half of the screen displays the variants belonging to the test configuration.
Use the scroll keys to scroll through the test data containers. You can use the following functions:
Adding Variants
Choose Add Variant. For more information, see Creating Variants in Test Configurations.

-
Select one or more variants belonging to a test data container.
-
Select one or more variants belonging to the test configuration.
-
Choose Add to Variant(s).
The empty fields of the variants belonging to the test configuration are filled. The value in a field is determined by the following syntax:
<parameter name>(<alias>,<variant>)
where the parameter name, alias, and variant all refer to a test data container.
If you chose one variant from the test data container, all the variants in the test configuration are affected.
If you chose several variants from both test data container and test configuration, the one at the top of the list for the test data container is linked to the one at the top of the list for the test configuration, the second is linked to the second, and so on down the list.
If more variants were selected from the test data container than from the test configuration, the surplus ones have no effect.
