Fund Balance Carryforwards The balance carryforward gives you an overview of a fund’s balance for each period.
Unlike the closing operations which affect the open commitment documents and budget values, the funds with amount type "0360" are carried forward in the balance carryforward of actual and commitment values.
The balance carryforward of actual/commitment data enables you to access data accumulated over several fiscal years for long-term funds in the current fiscal year.

Note that the fund balance carryforward is used with active Multi-Year Budget Execution for annual-based evaluations and has features different to the ones described here. For more information on this, see Multi-Year Budget Execution: Reporting
The following graphic shows the difference between a fund balance carryforward and a commitment carryforward. With a commitment carryforward, the open commitment is carried over to the corresponding commitment items in the new year. With a balance carryforward, the balances of the commitment items are accumulated and carried forward to a carryforward commitment item.

Funds Balance Carryforward and Commitment Carryforward
By summizing the commitment item balances to carryforward commitment items, it is possible to summarize to the required level of detail (balance carryforward item). In a fund balance carryforward, the values to be transferred to the carryforward item(s) are summarized; the fund and the funds center do not change.
The balance carryforward as delivered in the standard system, allows you to assign one carryforward item category in the master record of the commitment item. Should this assignment be insufficient for your needs, you can enhance the features of the balance carryforward as delivered by SAP by using enhancement SAPFMVTR to:
Define your own balance carryforwards
Override sender/receiver relationship (carryforward item category)
Exclude totals records from processing
Define the value types to be processed
See the SAPFMVTR program documentation for more information about enhancing carryforwards.
You must define one or more carryforward item categories for each FM area. A carryforward commitment item must be assigned to each carryforward item category.

.
You must be working with funds.
In the fund master record the
Balance Update
indicator must be set.
A carryforward item category must be defined in the master record of the commitment items relevant to the fund.

If you work on a payment basis, you must start program RFFMS200 before executing the balance carryforward. The program RFFMS200 converts invoices cleared in Financial Accounting in Funds Management from the status “Invoice” to the status “Payment”.
Activities
The system does not execute the balance carryforward automatically, program SAPFMVTR does this instead.
