Account Assignment Derivation In the Budget Control System, the references/links between posting address and the corresponding budget address are not automatically determined by their hierarchical master data assignments. However, you can define these references as you wish by using an account assignment derivation. The advantage of this is that you can also assign the budget for budget addresses for all hierarchies.
You use the derivation tool for the account assignment derivation of budget addresses .You define the derivation steps required for an account assignment derivation in a derivation strategy. You define an n:1 or 1:1 reference between posting addresses as source fields and budget addresses as target fields.
The derivation tool is not just limited to posting and budget addresses. Even if you have not defined budget structure elements (budget and posting addresses), you can define the account assignment derivation of postable FM account assignments for budgetable FM account assignments using the derivation tool provided in Customizing.
Standard delivery
If you do not define an account assignment derivation of budget addresses, the SAP standard supports a 1:1 assignment. In practice, this means that the corresponding budget must exist for each FM account assignment to which consumables in the form of actuals/commitments are posted.

Consistency Check and Reconstruction
As soon as you make any changes to the account assignment derivation of budget addresses or “budget-bearing” FM account assignments, you must check that no inconsistencies have occurred and, if necessary, reconstruct the budget structure. For more information see Budget Structure Consistency Check/Reconstruction .
You define a derivation strategy in the Customizing of Funds Management, under . For more information on defining/maintaining a derivation strategy and source and target field parameters, see the corresponding Customizing (IMG) documentation.
