Propose Linking

Maintain the link between the target node to the appropriate source node based on the system-suggested proposal for linking. The linking information is required to trace the node’s origin back to the source for future reference.

Background Information

When the handover of EBOM to MBOM is done through Product Handover SaaS application, the system establishes a path to trace the origin of each MBOM component back to its source in the EBOM.

Through this connection, you can use the Highlight option to inspect the source component linked to a specific target component, verify attribute changes, and facilitate change reconciliation to determine planning status and other relevant details.

Example

Let's use an example to illustrate how the linking process works in an ideal scenario.

For the source, let's assume you've planned the nodes as shown in the figure. In this arrangement, you've planned the Sensor and Chassis under the Bike, and Wheel under the Chassis. Additionally, the Sensor is planned under the Wheel. Linking of Source and Target Nodes

In the target, you've planned the Sensor under the Bike. The system stores this specific linkage information of the source node used in the target through a unique ID known as the GID (Global Identifier). The GID contains details about both the source and target components, along with their respective paths within the context. In the source, the Sensor is in the context of the Bike through the path of the Chassis and the Wheel while in the target, it is in the context of the Bike directly, either as its own child or BOM component.

When you choose the Highlight option, the system highlights the corresponding nodes in the Target and Source based on the GID match.

However, there are scenarios where the target BOM component may not be generated through planning. In such cases, the functionalities mentioned earlier don't apply to components that are not linked. The scenarios are:

Legacy BOM Migration

When importing BOMs from other systems, there won't be an established link between source and target BOM components.
Addition of BOM Components

When adding components independently in the Target and maintaining specific properties, there won't be an established link between source and target BOM components.
Load BOM with a different context, there won't be an established link between the source and target components.

In all the above cases, it's crucial to provide an option to link target nodes to the corresponding source nodes.
