Converting Stock Items to Variable-Size Items
Convert source components or assemblies, categorized as stock items, to variable-size items in the SAP S/4HANA system.
As the production engineer, sometimes you'll need to convert categorized stock items from the source to variable-size items in the target, and then maintain attributes such as size, formula, quantity, and unit of measure.
Prerequisites
You've planned components and assemblies in the Target panel.
For more information about planning and adding BOM items, see Planning and Publishing a Manufacturing Bill of Material (MBOM).
Procedure
-
In the Target panel, select the row that you want to convert to a variable-size item.
-
Choose → Convert to Variable-Size Item Category.
-
In the Convert to Variable-Size Item Category dialog box, enter the following details manually :
Details Description Size (1 to 3)
These three fields contain the dimensions of the variable-size item. The system uses these dimensions as variables in the selected formula to calculate the variable-size item quantity.
Size Unit
This field describes the unit for sizes 1 to 3.
Formula Key
This key describes the algorithm for calculating the variable-size item quantity.
Number of variable-size item
This field describes the number of pieces of the variable-size item that are required for the assembly.
Quantity of variable-size item
The system uses the sizes you enter and a variable-size item formula to calculate the quantity of the variable-size item.
Quantity Unit
This field describes the unit of measure for the quantity of a variable-size item.
For more information about maintaining the variable-size item, see Variable-Size Items.
-
Choose Convert.
Result: The selected component is converted to a variable-size item, and the icon is changed to . When you publish the MBOM, the component is categorized as a variable-size item category in the SAP S/4HANA system.
