Capture of Measurement DataDuring the loading confirmation process you can capture an unlimited number of measurement readings for the same product movement. All of the readings are stored in the shipment document for future reference, but are not posted against inventory and are not used to update underlying documents. During loading and delivery confirmation, you must select which readings should be used as the basis for the inventory.
Note
Especially for pipeline and marine shipments, there can be multiple loading measurements for the same loading event. This is often referred to as a "four point" measurement.
In the case of marine shipments the quantity loaded at the loading point is the first measurement. A second measurement is taken onboard the vessel which can be different from the first measurement. You can store both records for informational purposes, but you must select one measurement in the load confirmation step.
When loading confirmation is completed, the postings must reflect the correct intransit stock position for the shipment. If there are no differences between the measurements, or the sender and receiver agree on a negotiated measurement, only one material movement is necessary to move the stock to the intransit storage location.
If there is a difference between the measurements, and the first measurement has already been used for the intransit posting, a correction of the loaded quantity is required. How the correction is handled depends on a decision between sender and receiver as to where the difference in quantity should be posted. If the receiver accepts the difference, the intransit stock has to be corrected by posting a gain or a loss. If the sender accepts the difference, the necessary postings depend on the underlying documents for the shipment as follows:
Shipping notification |
post a reverse to the goods receipt for the related purchase order. |
Delivery or reservation |
post a transfer back from the intransit stock to the loading store location. Posting gains or losses against non intransit stock is done outside the shipment through core transactions. If there is a need to capture differences immediately, this should be done by posting a normal gain or loss. |
From the
