Definition

The Driver master data record stores driver details, such as their shift period or drivers licenses in the system. You can assign drivers to vehicles during the scheduling process of Bulk Transportation and Distribution.

Use

Driver master data stores the driver’s last name and first name, together with an external personnel number. The external personnel number is not linked to the Human Resources (HR) application component, and is designed primarily as an alternative method for identifying drivers.

The Carrier field is linked to the vendor master record in Purchasing, and is used when external drivers (drivers not on the payroll of the delivering company) are used.

The driver status is also stored in the master data record and is used to maintain the availability details of the driver. The driver can have a status of Driver available , Driver not available or Driver marked for deletion .

The status Driver marked for deletion means that the driver is no longer needed and is blocked from being used in new shipments. When the re-organization program is run, the master data for the driver is archived or deleted from the system, provided the driver is not assigned to any active shipments.

The Driver not available status can be used if the driver is temporarily unavailable, for example on vacation.

Structure

Information about the types of licenses held by the driver is stored in driver master data record. You can also enter the dates within which the licenses are valid. The license types are defined in Customizing, and belong to the same pool of licenses which are assigned to vehicles.

You can enter information relating to the shifts worked by the driver, together with the periods for which the shifts are valid. The driver shift information can be used during scheduling, where a vehicle can be scheduled for a particular shift. A shift rota is created for the driver in Customizing for IS Oil & Gas (Downstream). When assigning a driver to a vehicle, the system checks to ensure that the driver is available, that is, the status must be set to Driver available . No check takes place for the driver’s shift or license details.
