Quantity Optimizing When you enter purchase orders, sales orders and deliveries, you can have the system optimize the quantities to ensure that in agreements with customers or vendors threshold values or the use of complete logistical units of measure, such as whole pallets, can, for example, be guaranteed.
Quantities are optimized in the following areas (also note the constraints in the Features section).
Purchase orders
Allocation tables
Sales orders
Delivery
Store orders
Consumption-based planning (MRP)
The quantity optimizing function rounds off quantities you enter according to rules that are predefined in Customizing. You can round either up or down. The system can also take different units of measure of an article into account. The following options exist:
Rounding off using a rounding profile
You can enter a profile in Customizing. The system will then use this profile to round quantities. If a rounding profile is entered in purchasing or sales master data, the system rounds off quantities when documents are processed.
Rounding to a multiple by specifying standard quantities in the purchasing info record
This type of rounding ensures that only the valid number of decimal points and permitted logistical units of measure are used.
Checking for threshold value compliance
You can enter fixed values for rounding off items in purchasing and sales master data. The quantity optimizing function ensures that the quantity rounded to does not fall short of the minimum threshold quantity or exceed the maximum threshold quantity.
Purchase orders
Optimum document calculation is available for documents entered online or generated automatically in the background.
Constraints:
The maximum quantity is only taken into account in additional planning.
Collective purchase orders can only be generated online.
Allocation tables
Quantities are optimized at site level for each allocation table item. When quantities are optimized in allocation tables, quantities are not optimized again when follow-on documents are generated.
Sales orders
Optimum document calculation is available for documents entered online or generated automatically in the background.
Constraints:
Quantities are not optimized for:
Sub-items representing an inclusive or exclusive quantity (such as free goods)
Materials marked for active ingredient management or steel processing
Configurable articles
Generic articles
Orders with the type
Scheduling agreement with release
(type
LZ
)
Delivery
Optimum document calculation is available for documents entered online or generated automatically in the background.
Constraints:
The minimum delivery quantity is only taken into account for sales order deliveries.
The maximum delivery quantity and dynamic rounding profiles are only taken into account if the deliveries are generated with a store order.
Store orders
Optimizing is included in store order processing and can be used for all purchase orders, deliveries and sales orders that are generated with a store order.
Consumption-based planning (MRP)
Quantities are only optimized in purchase requisitions generated as part of a requirements planning run scheduled in the background.
Constraints:
Consumption-based planning only takes static rounding profiles into account. Dynamic rounding profiles and profiles for rounding up and down are not taken into account.
