Reducing Models
Use
Many 3D meshes are designed for specific purposes, but need to be used in ways for which they were not originally intended. For example, a character model may have a high polygon count, and is not be suitable for a game or an online application. The Reduce Model tool can be used to reduce the polygon count of entire models or separate objects, while preserving the defining visual features.
Reducing polygonal models to a smaller number of polygons ensures that file sizes are kept small, and that less bandwidth is required for transmission. You can adjust the reduction settings on many models for improved results.
When using the reduction tool, the current model is examined and if certain components exist in the model, the appropriate reduction options are automatically selected. You can choose whether to keep these settings or modify them to your own requirements. You then process the model, select the amount of reduction you require, and apply the reduction to the model.
More memory may be required if polygon reductions take time to complete. For example, if there are many parts in a model.
