Changing Table and Data Element Logging
Use
You can use transaction S_AUT01 to check and change the logging settings for tables and data elements. In the process, you can activate and deactivate the logging of data changes for individual table fields (data elements) or for entire tables on a targeted basis. If logging has been activated, each change made to data in the relevant tables or table fields is logged and saved in another table.
Integration
You will find the transaction S_AUT01 in the IMG for SAP NetWeaver under .
Prerequisites
-
For you to be able to perform change document creation and thus change the logging setting for data elements, the underlying table must be included in a change document object. Furthermore this change document object must be implemented in the application in which the data change is to be logged (see Creation of Change Documents).
If these conditions are not satisfied, no change documents can be used. In this case, you must activate logging for the entire table.
-
You have created a workbench request in transactoin SE09 in order to be able to save and transport the changed logging settings.
-
You must have authorization to change the logging and need the relevant authorization objects for this.
Features
The following functions are available:
-
You can activate and deactivate logging for a table without technical modifications. See also: Change Logging Settings for a Table
-
You can check whether the data element underlying a table field that is to be changed is located within a table that is connected to the change document creation facility.
-
You can activate and deactivate the logging of data elements without technical modifications if the above-mentioned prerequisites are satisfied. See also: Change Logging Settings for Data Elements
If the above-mentioned prerequisites are not satisfied, you cannot activate the logging of a data element but must activate it for the entire table.
-
After saving, you can activate the changed objects using the Mass Activation facility. You cannot transport the objects until they have been activated.
Depending on your authorizations, the system uses different methods to activate the inactive objects.
Case 1: You have authorization for Mass Activation:
In this case, the system starts the mass activation after saving. You can process the changed objects with the functions available in the mass activator.
Case 2: You have no authorization for Mass Activation:
In this case, the system activates the inactive objects in the background. You cannot call up the objects.
-
In the transaction S_AUT01 or S_AUT02, you can assign a table or change document to a certain transaction once you have completed the changes to the logging setting for tables or data elements. The transaction then appears in the structure tree under Own Assignments and facilitates subsequent accessing.
In addition, the changed table or associated change document object is displayed in the SAP Easy Access Menu under the assigned transaction. See also: Assigning Changed Objects to Transactions
-
You can see the Status of the individual objects. The Status is displayed directly adjacent to the name of the selected table or data element in the form of a symbol. See also: Status of Objects
